Statistics: People who legally own gun rarely commit crimes with their firearms

I've been spending some time schooling a gun grabbing cuck on why banning guns from legal owners is insane, at best. Namely, a few articles I had come across within a few minutes of Googling (something I guess he can't do.)

The point being, criminals will get their hands on guns whether they're legal or not. Sure they'll use more legal avenues when there are less background checks involved, but either way, in both cases, they'll likely get their hands on firearms.

Not to mention the "religion of peace" has been doing quite the mass killings over in Europe with vans and acid attacks. Zero outrage from dems here and zero push to outlaw any of those things here.

It's about disarming us, it's not about safety or even understanding one of the big reasons we have arms in the first place (IE, governments have routinely killed / oppressed / done other horrible shit against their own people throughout history.)

You might want to read those two articles you linked @libertysnake . The first is thoroughly anti-gun and tries minimize defensive gun use and maximize the risk of owning a gun by bringing suicide and gun theft into the equation.

The second is better but essentially just a fact check on something Joe Scarborough said. It basically concludes that no one really knows how many truly legal guns are used in crime.

Statistics don't mean anything other than what you want them to say...

We all "KNOW" about criminal use of firearms because the media can't help but publicise it...

Fact is most firearm owners are more educated with respect to the lawful use of said firearm and also with a great degree of certainty, their Constitutional Right to do so.

The same can't be said for people who exercise the 1st Amendment, they open their mouth and couldn't even recite the 1st!

The same can't be said for Voters... Bet there's plenty of people of African descent that couldn't tell you which amendments are applicable to their Freedoms... As much as they want to bemoan the oppression which exists.

That's not news. People just tend to avoid that fact. I have many times debated with liberals in person and on twitter and if you pose any relevant or good facts to them they stop speaking with you. Also there are some real things that we could do to stop gun violence, but they refuse to admit it. Such as increase the murder solve rate 20% is pitiful and criminals with gun crimes should not be pled down or paroled. This 2 items would further reduce gun crimes. Also stiffer penalties for armed drug dealers and gang members would help too.

That's basically what happened. My point was that lawful owners aren't generally committing the crimes -- and deaths by gun classified in other areas, like suicide or accidents, are completely preventable by getting people help or practicing proper safety.

Furthermore, even if having firearms around does produce a marginal increase in the homicide rate -- which I'm not convinced it does, just as a thought experiment -- I still say having an armed populace is a net benefit. Human nature is such that bad people will prey on the innocent. Whether that be by governments hurting or killing their own people, or by criminals. Giving the innocent a means to protect themselves is a net benefit.
