Well she is going to lose. NYC has too many liberal voters to overcome.

I dare say many feel the same way, but it should be noted that we have had Republican Governors and Zelden only lost be a precious few points...People in general have had more than enough of Hochul, there's always a chance and you can't win if you don't play.

I hate to say it but she will not win. Even if she does win she will not change much of anything but slow down “progress”

I also enjoyed her putting it to Hochul in that hearing.
But running for NY Gov as a Republican is pretty much a lost cause. Hochul is running, and her "absolute do nothing for his $200K salary", Lt. Gov Delgado (read about him in the NY Post, - he does nothing, and many days doesn't even show up to his office...) has announced he is running against Hochul. So, there is a very slight possibility that Delgado could take enough votes from Hochul to give Stefanik a chance, - theoretically, of course. More likely, of course, is that the NY Dems will buy him off with a 10 year judgeship or some other appointment or "job", and he will drop out. Or more likely is that the NYC voting bloc will simply overwhelm voters for Stefanik from upstate. And they will go to town to demonize her and link her to President Trump's policies.
Even on the very remote chance that Stefanik were to somehow win, she would be able to accomplish ABSOLUTELY NOTHING against the Dem super majority controlled NY Assembly and Senate. Nope, NYC is a lost cause, and when Mamdani becomes the next Mayor there, it will get even worse.
Both Pataki and Giuliani won office in the midterms of '94. That was during Slick Willie's first term as POTUS and the Republican's "Contract on with America" marketing strategy. Limbaugh was as popular as ever. Republicans had some momentum. Also, it didn't hurt that NYC crime rates were high (as now) during Koch and Dinkins admins and that Mario Cuomo was at the end of his term limit for Governor. I also think the party-line affiliations were a bit jumbled after the 3-way POTUS race of '92 - Clinton won a plurality of the popular vote, not the majority.
That said, the possibility of a Stefanik win this next midterm may hinge on a mix of Republican turnout, Independent's votes and Democrat apathy. To a large extent that will all ride on the coattails of Trump's success.
At this point I'd say there is a good chance she could win, better than any point since '94. There are parallels in terms of crime rates and shifts in party preferences. She may be our best chance. Decent name recognition, I have no doubt she will out-debate AssHochul and any gender association issue is somewhat neutralized.
One difference between now and '94 is that we didn't have the same reach of internet for those who claim to be on the Right to spread their own defeatist, apathetic, self-fulfilling prophecies of doom.

Makes one wonder why we bother with anything; Gun Groups, Political Action Committees, Election Campaigns, the whole fucking gamut...all we do is bitch about loosing a battle we haven't fought.

That’s a good question, because the people you mentioned never really get anything accomplished. And even when they try to, NY courts and law makers just ignore it.

Probably the best chance we have of getting a GOP governor. I know that Lawler wants to run too but I think he has even less name recognition. Plus it'll look like the mean old man is beating up on the poor progressive lady. At least you can't say that with Stefanik.
I get the cynicism of this group. I have it too. But honestly, this is the best chance in a long while of getting a Republican in that office. Let's say Hochul wins the Dem primary (not a given...she's deeply unpopular even in her own party) and Delgado decides to run as an Independent or third party they may split the liberal ticket. Similar thing may happen in NYC with the mayor's race this year (though I kind of doubt it). Heck. Zeldin came closer than just about anyone gave him credit for the last go around and the conditions weren't even that ideal for him.

2013 opened my eyes regarding the democrat party. They have absolutely no interest in helping anyone, being fiscally responsible, or following the very laws they insist everyone else must follow. Haven't voted for one since.
I'm not particularly fond of the republican party either, but *so far!* they haven't not seriously infringed on my rights (other than by proxy by not getting off their lazy asses and fighting against what the democrats have done). They talk about doing so, but haven't made any serious inroads...yet.

NYS is moving away from the Canadian-produced Dominion Machines to Nebraska-produced ES&S ExpressVote machines. I think they were rolled out in Monroe county this year. The argument now seems to be when/how the paper ballot is created. Commoncause.org is against the new machines, so that right there makes me hope maybe they'll be better than Dominion.
Ironically the mechanical machines didn't use any paper ballot but (IMO) were more secure. At least I don't recall any widespread "fraud" issues about them.
I think the arguments over what systems are used is mostly overblown. Fraud can take place anywhere between casting and reporting but it starts with who they let in the door to vote in the first place, IOW voter registration. That is the real issue they try to distract from.
Not that any of that proves anything, it'll just be another thing to blame instead of voters getting up off of *their* lazy asses.
The County Republican Party Bosses ARE a major problem: ALL seem to think the Party and it's candidates revolve around them, and quite honestly act as though they are the ones in charge and the Elect is subordinate...unless and until the clique that constitutes the Party changes, they can go fuck themselves...Oh, I'll Vote (R) or (C) but nary a dime will I give those self-serving ass-clowns.

Lost cause. Not enough republicans to vote Hochul out. Even if Stefanik did win, how would she get any of what she wants to pass the senate and the house? The senate and house would hold her hostage. Change the senate and the house, then republicans may have a chance other than that, it is just wishful thinking.

Could be right, but conversely the Governor would also "hold hostage" the Senate and Assembly...Governor's Office does wield a lot of Power but Politically and Constitutionally, but it does take all three to actually get things done...at least telling them to fuck off, that they're not getting passage of what they want unless they have enough Votes to override a Veto at least throttles them back.
Republicans up until Dean Skelose held the Senate and well could again...the problem Republicans have is Party/Race loyalty: Blacks will vote Black, Muslims will vote Muzzy, Democrats will Vote Blue no matter who.
Not so much anymore.
Republicans are poised to POSSIBLY benefit from those groups being driven out of the new Democrat Party, if they would only stop shooting themselves in the foot!
