I do shop at Walmart.
They occasionally ask to see my receipt.
Sometimes I'll just say 'no thanks' and continue walking.
Other times I'll ignore them as if they must be talking to someone else.
Never once has the receipt police said another word. Ends pleasant with no further interaction.

I use Walmart pay which doesn't print a receipt. The receipt is emailed. The message after the transaction is something like " Thank you for using Walmart pay. Your receipt has been emailed to you. We will check your phone at the exit".

Locally I've never been checked. I was checked at a Rochester Walmart. They wanted to see the receipt for a specific item. The 40v chainsaw. I figured because I spent a long time looking at the chainsaws. Put a 20v in my cart. Went back and replaced it with the 40v version ( for $65 regular price $157). Then spent a long time in electronics. And looking at other stuff. Can't remember everything I did. But spent a long time wandering around the place.

Prior to going to Rochester for the chainsaw, I was in Sayre, PA that same evening. Bought a high wheeled lawnmower for $79 on clearance.

Buying beer is literally pissing money away, so I buy the beer I like as cheap as I can find it, and that is Walmart in Geneseo. It is a nice store and if they want to see receipt, which has never happened, I will show them one, I got pockets full of them.
One thing that puzzles me though, where do all those strange people go when not at the store, I never see them anywhere else.

Look for yourself, as per the Federal Trade Commission, a stores policies and rules need to be posted if open to the general public. Either in the Brick and Mortar store or on their website.

And what if they aren't ? What is the penalty for not posting them ?

Can the store make a policy on the spot and scrawl it on the back of a napkin taped to the wall and then enforce it immediately ?

In addition to that loophole, most policies I have seen include a catch all line like "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone".

I think he is right. Anorher thing I dont stand for is not having cashiers at checkout. If the lines are huge I ask for help if they point me to the self checkout I say no thanks and I advice that unless they have a cashier I am considering absndoning the kart and leaving due to them not providing reasonable and reliable checkout services.
Every time I get someone to accept the checkout and I ask people in the line before me if they want to go first as courtesy.
If everyone did these things we would have better service and more jobs and if the milk goes up 50 cents so be it. In the end one of those jobs will be mine or your kid who is in college.
So yeah, I agree with @Darth on this one. If you want to be treated like a loyal customer stop acting like sheep.

I hear you... A lot of retailers, fast food (McDonalds) are migrating to "self-serve". You scan items, or use a kiosk to place your order, etc. While it hatched long before, one of the reasons they had to move to operating with less employees, is that they no longer could afford to pay that many people @ $15/hour (Thanks Andy!). There's much to be said how negatively these politicians are affecting our lives.

I guess I’ve never really thought it was a great inconvenience or some kind of principle issue. I only get pissed when I get jacked up unexpectedly.

For example, I once had two cops in the same week pull me over, first because he thought my light was out and second stop because he thought my registration was expired. When I raised my voice at the second cop he did the whole “calm down, relax, it’s not that big of a deal!” but both of these idiots pulled me over on busy highways endangering both of us and wasting my time.

As far as Walmart experience, I don’t know if any of you have shopped at the Geneseo Walmart but it’s actually a good experience. They are also one of the few 24/7 locations available. No one checks receipts there, and the worst clientele are drunk college kids and your occasional white trash.

Interestingly, when I was shopping in the hood Walmart where everyone was black except my gf and me, when we got to the receipt checker (who was also black) we were waved on with “have a nice day” while she stopped every other shopper. It was nice to be profiled in a positive light.

I would not blame the politicians. We are the shoppers and have the power to buy,.walk out or even spend more if we like what we see. We also voted these goons into office.
When are we going to change? Is it going to be soon or we wait for rock bottom?...that is the big question.

I was just illustrating the difference, for me personally, between situations you expect to be ID’d, checked, bothered etc. (like shopping at many Walmarts) and situations where you don’t expect it. I couldn’t think of any other examples outside of that where someone gave me shit for no reason, because most people don’t go around doing that.

Now that I think about it though, I did have a random range member ask to see my range ID one time. He was one of the old retirees who sticks his nose in everyone’s business type.

If I get pulled over for speeding, I don’t have an issue with handing over my ID. I also don’t care when I get asked for ID when buying cigarettes even though it’s obvious I’m over 21. If I had a moral issue with people asking to see my receipt, I wouldn’t shop at Walmart. I guess I just don’t understand the outrage or concern.
