Swiss voters approve stricter gun control laws to fit with EU rules

Switzerland — one of the most heavily armed countries in Europe — voted to comply with stricter European Union gun laws in a referendum Sunday.

While Switzerland doesn’t belong to the EU, it is part of the bloc’s Schengen Area which is a zone that can be visited without a visa or passport by citizens of 26 European nations.

Following terrorist gun attacks in Paris and Brussels in 2015 and 2016, the EU tightened gun rules, known as the "EU Gun Ban", the bloc encouraged Switzerland to comply with its laws.

The projections from the gfs.bern polling outfit saw the measure passing in the binding referendum by a comfortable 67-33% margin.

If Switzerland refused, the country could have been excluded from the Schengen Area.

There are plenty of other Nations that would love to alter the way we do things. Many would love for us to disarm, the majority of our people want the Bill of Rights to remain. The will of the people must be the rule of law. The Swiss want this, go for them.

We have the rule of law here. I like the rule of law, I attempt to follow that each and everyday. If the Constitution was to be amended, again, and if it was done correctly, yes. Yes, I would support that alteration.

I am not at all concerned though, it will never occur.

Nor do I have respect for them either. Too many changes, and not for the better are occurring on the World stage. Shame too few understand how bad things are going to get.

"If" the supreme Court does their job as intended and how they were envisioned its a good check and balance.

However, if the court becomes a part of the legislative process and makes their activist rulings on political idealogy instead of the Constitution then yes you are indeed correct. They are outside the realm of public office and individual citizen voters have no mechanism for reigning them in, recalling them or impeachment.

People in North Korea have the same natural rights you and I have, just because their government will kill them for exercising them doesn't mean they don't have the rights, it just means they are being infringed on.

Some of the rights in the constitution may work that way, but others do not depend on any document for their existence.

Free speech, RKBA, due process, etc. These rights exist even if *every single person in the country* votes to abolish them.

3/4 of the states can vote to remove the protections for those rights from the constitution, but they cannot eliminate the rights.
