Talk me into a C&R license

I'm thinking about getting my C&R license. Talk me into it (or out of it). From my understanding....

I can buy eligible long guns from out of state and have them shipped directly to me.
All in state long gun purchases have to go through a FFL01 to get the NICS check done
All pistols have to go through an FFL01, whether they come from in state or out of state.

Is that right? Is the only good thing about getting a C&R license is the ability to ship long guns to my door?

Well, for $30 for 3 yrs if you are interested in actually aquiring those it is a good deal as usually through gun broker or if you travel to other states cheaper. You can just hand them or mail them a copy off your ffl and log it into your book. You can buy from a non ffl as well in another state without a nics.

Any C&R designated leader MF gun can shop directly to you. All pistols including C&R need to be delivered through FFL (FUAC and FUNY). If you buy 1 rifle it pays for itself.

While BATFE has the right to view your "bound book" they don't seem to be interested in hobbyists/collectors. You just can appear to be running a business. Purchases and sales are to enhance your own collection (e.g. you can't buy a crate of Mosin Nagants and turn around and sell them for profit).

It's a 10 minute process. IIRC you fill out the form and then send a letter to the sheriff just saying "hey, i'm getting an FFL03, you don't need to keep this letter or do anything, thanks"

Very simple process.
1 - Fill out application
2 - Send it in with $30
3 - Send letter to local sheriff that you have applied for collector license
4 - Wait for approval
5 - Spend all your money

You can also buy C&R long guns at shows without BGC since ATF already checked you out. Just bring copy of C&R license.

While collecting won't make you rich the prices of C&Rs steadily climbing. You won't lose money. I bought my first Mosin a few years ago for $99 on sale. Now they go for $250 and up.

If we lived in a free state and I could get pistols, it would probably be a different story.

You NEED the C&R License! I let mine lapse when the criminal that just left the White House started his reign. The ATF told me they would only visit your home if one of your guns turned up at a crime scene or something like that. If you like older firearm and military surplus like I do, it's good to go. Now, very early commercial AR-15s are even C&R eligible!

If you buy one rifle shipped to your door vs paying a transfer fee at your LGS it's worth it. $30 for 3 years. Buy more than one in three years and you are ahead of the game. Every collection needs (IMO):
- a Mosin Nagant 1891 rifle (bolt)
- an M44 Mosin Nagant (carbine length), or Chinese T53 version
- an SKS (Russian, Chinese or Yugoslavian are most common)
- a K31 Swiss straight pull bolt rifle
- a Garand

Only one on my list I'm missing is the Garand - prices getting ridiculous.

Of the bunch the SKS is under appreciated IMO. A solid platform that is a blast to own and use.

M1 carbines

They either got rid of it, or cheesed it right up, I stopped with them when they did something COMPLETELY ridiculous like, I'm not kidding, "If you have a C&R FFL on file, we will charge your order MORE, unless you spend over $75."

Seriously. They did that. You got punished for having an 03 on file.

I let mine expire, stupidly, and the only thing holding me back from getting a new on is my DAMN PRINTER BEING BROKEN!

Yeah, I had to go back and google it to make sure I wasn't going nuts with how absurd that sounds, but yeah, it's true! If you made an order under $40, and were a "dealer" (ffl on file), they charged you $4 PLUS your shipping fee!

How long does the process take? I sent in my application about 6 weeks ago, and have not received anything back from ATF yet.
