It's not sandpaper, they call it "granulate". Doesn't tear up anything. I've used the "rubber" type on many firearms and have had only one start to peel off, this being after three years on a Glock 26.

No. It's pretty much the same as the rubbery texture. Just a tad better gripping. Then "gritty" granulite wears down slightly to even better perfection.

No, my preference is the rubber type. I have it on many of my handguns and have installed it on dozens of others for friends. All love it...

This is the brand I like too.Tractiongrip. Just a better non slip when wet, that's the reason I prefer granular over rubberized no matter which brand.

I have the granulate for my Shield, but meant to order the rubberized. It definitely feels like sandpaper. Had to sand it down w/ sandpaper to get it not as grippy. Also can't carry w/out an undershirt because it rubs my skin raw wherever it is. It's also starting to loosen near the base after a year or so of use. It definitely changes the grip though, I've never felt more sure of it in my hands.

Nah but the TractionGrips are less sandy than the Talons..cheaper product but better product in my view. Stayed on longer and texture pluses.

So if I were to get new grips, what would be the right way to remove/clean to ensure the new ones stick properly? I imagine it's gonna be a mess when it comes off
I would imagine heat would be your friend. Then clean it with some sort of solvent. Maye alcohol or nail polish remover.

You are supposed to use alcohol to wipe down your grip. After it dries, you apply the wrap. You then put hot air to it via a blow dryer and and shift it if needed and press it down removing all folds, creases, and bubbles. When it dries, it on good.
If it peals, you rip off the remaining wrap, use WD-40 to quickly remove the remaining sticky residue, wipe down with alcohol to totally clean it, and reapply.

Great, that sounds good. I definitely followed the directions to a "t" when putting them on, they looked great. I don't know if age or heat from sitting in a safe in a hot room had the peeling effect, or if it's just the part that hits my holster the most.
I'll also look closer at trimming mine better. First application had a bit of overlap when wrapped around all the way, I had to trim it but wasn't completely happy w/ that part.

I ripped my talons off after they started coming undone on the bottom of the backside of the grip. I tried 2 of them. After about a month, they started shifting and peeling in the same area. Both of them.
How is that Hogue? Does it move around at all? Do you find yourself having to readjust it?
Its on my single stack 9, so it doesn't get shot all that much. While just carrying and reholstering, it will slightly rotate just a bit over the course of a couple months. Not enough to mess with anything, it's just my OCD knowing it's not perfectly straight.

They are cheap. I will give one a try and report back.
Made a big difference on my lc9s. The grip on that gun is really thin and small. Between the finger grooves,rubber,and a bit of palm swell, I can actually get a really good grip on it now.

I tried the Talons on my Glock 21. I followed the instructions and they still started peeling in a couple months. Then I found AGrips

Well over couple a years. 1 pistol has 15,000 rounds and grips are still good.

I was going to try these AGrips but after really looking at them, I didn't like how they look. They go too far up on the slide release. So I bought the Hogue, installed it, (it was a bitch to get on) and took it off. It makes the grip way too thick for my hand.

I wish you were closer to me so you could handle a professionally stippled gun. If you have the money that's the only way to go.

I'm considering that too. Decisions, decisions.
