Tent Camping

I spend 60+ nights in the woods every year, sometimes closer to 100.
I havent used a tent in about 15 years but I do carry a small tarp incase it rains.
When I did use a tent, it wss ONLY because of weather.
MOST less expensive tents leak so bad, youre better off in the rain. Every drop of moisture will be trapped on your tarp tent floor.
A simple tarp over a branch will let the rain soak into the ground and keep you drier.
Anyways, most do not like open sky sleeping because of the scary animals, soooo, get a decent tent with good waterproof ratings.
Here was my bed for a couple nights last week. And yes, Moscado drank from a water bottle.

The bugs dont really bother me much.
The area in the picture above is very wet and swampy so im glad I had my mummy bag to hide in.
I love the smell of the woods, the sound of the woods and being in the open. Ive showed my GF the beauty of sleeping under the stars and she loves it now.
She used to be one of the people that wanted a 3 room tent that you can stand up in. She wanted 2 coolers, 4 pans for cooking, eggs, bacon, gallons of water.......
Now she can go a week with a 40 pound pack.
In the pic above you can see the rope I put up for a tarp incase it rained.

I also don't like to completely hide in my mummy bag, so that might be another issue, haha. I love sticking my head/face out in the elements.

When we first started camping, we carried so much shit. It has been a fun evolution from kids to now, seeing our supplies and packs get smaller and lighter. Now, he likes a hammock, I'm still partial to a tent.

Switched over to one a few years ago after getting tired of getting soaked putting up a regular tent in the rain.

It's big enough for a queens sized air mattress, 2 cots that I use as tables, and coolers.

Thats the big downfall of tents.. is putting it together.

Now I have a large variety of tents to look through, Ill be looking for an air mattress. Since we are a bigger couple, we will need a decent capacity. Found one on amazon queen size 600# rating. https://www.amazon.com/Comfort-Elev...1500654166&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=air+matresss

A high mattress like that one is great to sleep on, but two things to remember.

1 - you need 120v for the bed pump.

A small 200W inverter that plugs into your cigarette lighter (dating myself again)
I mean 12V accessory outlet (LOL) and a cheap extension cord that reaches to the tent.
My truck is no where near the tent when we camp most of the time, so
I have one of those small 12V batteries from a kids ride-on toy.
It lasts long enough to pump up the bed and charge the phone all weekend.

2 - You need to re-inflate the bed before sleeping.

There will be some initial stretch from the new material, and
The pressure in the bed will go down after it cools off. It's a temperature thing.
(It's a combination of outside temperature and heated air from the pump motor )
If you keep that in mind, you won't spend the day looking for a leak

So I decided that Im gonna shop around, but wait til the end of the season to buy. Mainly because August I wont be able to get out and Sept I have a reservation already set. So by then weather will start to change. Might as well buy when prices are lower.

But if someone knows of cheap storage for a small RV in Syracuse or close by, Im all ears.

A pop-up doesn't take up a lot of space. My only concern with a truck bed tent is if you have to leave for something, you have to drop the tent down. I think I would rather have a truck cap.

Ya I think if I was gonna use my truck bed, It would just be for a night under the stars. No extended camping.

I say buy a tent and a rv lol. Then you will be covered. If you only need to fit two people, you could get a 19' rv. Still small enough to get into tight places. There might be smaller ones out there.

No RV. Don't need the extra wear and tear on your vehicle, and it's not really camping. Comfortable and would I take it if I could? Sure. I call it a relaxing weekend of "roughing it", but if you still have a toilet and power, you're not camping.

4000# or less wont even make my F350 break a sweat

But Ive never called camping roughing it. I like tk be comfortable away from everyone!

Hey bananabandit. If you are ever in the Oswego/mexico area, you are more than welcome to check out my rv. Or check out you local rv dealer if you go that route. I think just getting out of the house, tenting or rving is worth it. My family loves doing it.
