They operate in full view as a functioning legitimate business. What someone does in the back room is harder to regulate than the business being open in the first place. It is either open or it’s closed. The back room business only happens when it’s open. Everyone knows when it’s open. Nobody shows when someone is in the back room when it’s open.

They get shut down every few years for a month or 2 in some sting, and then they open right back up again in the same location.

Reselling booze you bought at retail as opposed to wholesale / distributor is a losing proposition unless you mark it up beyond the already jacked up margin on booze in restaurants and bars.

I do not know if it has to do with a lack of education, plain tin foil hats being way too tight, or actually knowing the facts but saying otherwise to appear to be cool or tough to win arguments on here. Of course governments are taking advantage to further agendas. But because they do so for mail in voting as one example, that doesn’t mean that because it is being taken advantage of that this virus is nothing and just the same as the ones that are treatable with antiviral medications such as tamaflu or zpac. But according to them, every country is in on this grand conspiracy even ones who do not have to follow along or have no history of ever following along like Russia, ect. Many have terrible diets and are on cholesterol and heart medications. Many get winded going up flights of stairs. Never mind the pneumonia you can develop from this if your immune system is weak. It’s all a hoax. No one dies from this despite people here actually seeing others die from this with no abnormal health conditions. Nevermind those that do survive but now have permanent damage to their bodies. Those aren’t counted in the death rates so it doesn’t matter. A big nothing burger until it actually affects them. When one of them or their 50+ year old spouses or family members end up in a hospital where they can’t even visit them, they will change their tune real quick. I attended 2 zoom funerals for fallen coworkers. The saddest thing ever. The first one that happened, the wife never saw her husband’s body at all after the time the ambulance showed up to take him away. He died alone on a ventilator.

If you look at the JHU database is not perfect but it is pretty well maintained and so far the most reliable source.
The datasrouces have been verified by major MPP databases that give subscriptions to any organizations who need the data world wide.
The updates are done daily or weekly so there might be a lag and even CDC data in the us might be one week behind when the JHU database
has the latest actuals.
I am providing a few examples on how well this is maintatined in case someone is interested in learning something and some facts instead of pandering to the ignorant .
JHU gives a total for the States but also any Countries affected by the virus.

These match quite close the numbers from the Brazilian "Secretaria de Saude" (Ministry of Health) that are now pretty well maintained after June's scandal where they were delaying the updates to avoid panic and their health organizations found out and got burned so now they are updating on a daily basis.

You go to an independent newspaper in Spain that verifies their data against their ministry of health (like our CDC)
and you have the same number. This is because JHU is connected to the reporting system in place for the hospitals in that country.
