Yes... I know. They all have teams of officers that already dig deep on all Social Media sites. Your phone calls, your texts and the like; they are already used.
If someone were to flood the public dataset that Dataminr is looking at with a bunch of false records to render their service useless, that'd be a real shame. A real shame. Right @SomeSoldier / @SonOfSun ?
That being said, legitimately, how are they even determining info that is false or accurate that it's sourcing? Even with potentially bad actors aside that could taint the dataset, public records are filled with inaccuracies by themselves. I have my doubts about accuracy. Seems like a huge ball of wax to me, even if a bad actor didn't mess with this system.
There's at least a dozen works of literature warning why you absolutely do not want a "pre-crime" department."We're in the business of preventing crime."
No, you absolutely are not. You are in the business of enforcing the duly enacted laws of your jurisdiction after a crime has been committed. The laws provide for the punishments to be administered by the judiciary and those are meant to serve as the deterrent for crime.
If he is in the business of "preventing" crime, every person needs to have their driver license immediately suspended so as to "prevent" drunk driving. Everyone should be preemptively charged with all manner of crime because, well, you might do something someday and it needs to be prevented.
This mission creep will be the death of freedom.....
Will be? Heh. Freedom has been in the throes of death by a thousand cuts since 1792."We're in the business of preventing crime."
