It's a factory finish but I posted it because it is Cerakote's new thinner and supposedly tougher formulation.
It is very resistant to damage I can say that.
I dropped it on the bathroom sink and it chipped the porcelain, no scratches or marks. I bobbled it up into the air and it landed on my work table, gouged the plastic and landed against a concrete wall. No scratches or marks.
I impatiently drifted the ejection port retaining rod out against and along the forward assist. It was under enough pressure to flex. No scratches or marks. Good shit I'd say.

To be honest I think the Cerakote finish might be the best finish on the market. Including the various metal treatments.

Thanks, I'm hoping to get some extra scratch one of these days and get another RMR so that I can put it back into the carry rotation (I mean in a simpler way than having to swap over the RMR from the glock and sight it back in)

Id like to do my Mossberg 500.
I absolutely hate bluing.

I hate it so much that 20 years ago I used that cheap ass camouflage duct tape like gun wrap on my turkey gun.
After 20 years its still securely covering the gun.

Whoa! You can get Cerakote glossy? I thought you could only get it as a matte finish! That looks really great! Is there a color in gloss that looks like a blued finish? That would be awesome!

The color I had done was as close to a blue finish as I could find. Depending on the light it looks black or blue. The color looked nicer on a shotgun that they showed me but came out a bit darker on my pistol.

Different lighting also makes it look glossier some times more than others.

In those pics looks black to me. Still very nice though. I guess it's not possible to duplicate that deep blued luster in paint. I do love me a blued finish. Funny given that blueing is about the least durable finish in a thread about probably the most durable finish.

It's a Mossberg. He can just buy a new one.

Probably but it still works great. Just got a turkey last Fall.

The one I wrapped is one of those $70 New England Firearms single shot 12 gauges.
And, its the only long gun I own which has never, ever had even a hint of an issue.
It has worked perfectly for thousands of rounds. Ive even killed about 10 deer with it.

from the shop here .. duracote .. what they do .. not sure if they will just take in a gun and paint it .. they will mine but i know them i just have to get that old Ithaca single shot 20ga stripped down and take to them ..

That has to be Cerakote, especially the flag and battle worn. I can’t see anyone using DuraCoat for those, way too thick and can’t be thinned out. It’s all I used before Cerakote came out and there is no comparison on any level.

they only spray duracote , my best friends wife works there .. and he is now spraying paint when he can to help out ..

@GUNSICK just last week .. i been watching vids on DipYourCar and asked .. does duracote have a clear .. can we toss in some pearls .. should work .. will have to test that ..

yrs ago when the color changing paint came out .. i shot my old 10/22 with it .. one view is gray and another view is bright green ..

times change and if you find that niche with something .. its a game changer ..

If he sprays Cerakote he will never go back to DuraCoat.

I know nothing about this process. Is it painted on, airbrushed, dipped? How do you get the special lettering and designs, do they come as decal's? Interesting!!!
Definitely has a nice look to it and it seems the only limitation of design is in the imagination of the applicator.

Its sprayed on. There are air cured and oven cured versions with the latter being the tougher finish, but not every application can be put into an oven so.........
As for the designs I am curious myself. Is it done via stencils and layers? Whatever the process is it must be labor intensive as the cost is very high compared to a single color coat.
I have been thinking of getting the Galil Cerakoted in some appropriate desert pattern.

The have sticker stencils that make the pattern. Most have a small cutter that can cut the desired patterns out.
