These politicians saw too many movies where some ex-military guy that was burned by the Gov't and just wants to be left alone, but the Fed's F with him and he becomes a one man death squad. Then he winds up shooting a helicopter out of the sky with a .50, and takes out an armored limo being used by the Governor or some Senator.
They see this shit, and it scares the F out of them, thinking it could be them. Of course, they're FAR more likely to get stabbed in the neck than to be the target of a 1200 yard sniper.
