That's quite likely.

I wouldn't be opening it immediately, and I will probably not get it out for too long at a stretch for quite a while.

I'm not even sure how rapidly you can trigger a second EMP.

The EMP itself will cause havoc with the atmospheric conditions that allow a nuke to generate an EMP.

But in any case, if you want a couple hours, then only unbox for a few minutes at a time, it's unlikely to get nabbed, even if there are multiple EMPs.

Nuclear weapons are a very finite resource, and ones optimized for EMP even more so. Nobody except the US and Russia has more than a few hundred warheads, how many would you allocate to EMP vs just vaporizing a city ?

The original premise @BerettaGuy laid out is something I've considered. I try to envision what would happen if I woke up to the reality of "one second after"

In addition to all the obvious things like filling up bathtubs and containers full of water and preserving foods etc...



I've actually made the determination I would resist temptation to NOT pull anything out of my faraday cage for 2 weeks. My logic, whoever hit us will very likely hit us again. It is sound military doctrine. Wait until your enemy has pulled out all their spare replacements then hit them again sending them totally back to 1850.


I wouldn't need any comms or anything at this point. The first 2 weeks would be relatively calm. I would already be assuming it's ww3 and we've been EMPd.

During the ‘91 ice storm, we were heating with wood and had an old generator, 11 days and no power too our area, we had 19 people (neighbors and relatives) living in our small house…I would never do that again. Lazy SOBS ate everything and left a huge mess in the aftermath…

Most people I grew up with are there, including a Vietnam Vet who taught me about computers growing up and a childhood friend who is now actually an ATF agent that all live in that street.

I always leave the gas tanks at least half full so I can reach their house in a worst case scenario.

Actually I just checked. It's 13-14 miles. That's very doable in a day, and gives plenty of time for breaks. With a lot of gear that's maybe 6 hours or 7. Head out in the morning, be there for dinner. Take a lot of nuts and kind bars and my source bladder.

My friend ... As you have had a bit of experience perhaps you could school some of the folks on this forum as to some of the more important preps that you found useful in surviving .
I mentioned last week .. Told my family everyone should have at least one arctic sleeping bag ..If one is lacking heat then crawling in one some January night could be a lifesaver.

Just the basics. Food, water, and shelter. I should add shelter will include a heat source. The other 3 inhabitants in this house will flat out shit their britches. They are led around throughout life with their phone in front of their faces like a carrot dangling in front of a donkey. HEE HAWW.

Anyways, This ole place is on a well. Of course that requires electricity which, I hope to have a gen set powered by wood gas. Wood gas has been around for a very long time. Water can also be collected and filtered through a home brew setup. Charcoal and sand in a plastic barrel will provide a decent amount of gallons for an average family. Perhaps those who can could collect water in an IBC tote, good for 275-300gals depending on size, and then filter. All can be done with gravity. There is a cistern in the basement here from the 1800s. I would guess it at 750-1000gals. I would have to put gutters back up ..... but the feed hole through the foundation is still there.

Basically, one can look at the Amish way of life. If you can grow food, grow it. If you can hunt, kill it. Stock as many non perishable foods as possible. Pre prepping will only last so long for stocked goods. One needs to be able to replenish. On another note, rationing goes a long ways. I've been doing that part most of my teen aged and adult life.

I will add more, to this thread, as they come to mind. A good channel on blowtube is Engineer 775. He does lots of self preservance setups.
