Thermal dissipators (TD)

I have seen these in a few adds, and read a few forum posts about them, don't know if I shoot enough in a row to take advantage of the cooling effects. I suppose someone who shoots 3 gun @Bullet Guy or target practices like @Podmonkey might be able to take advantage of them. I am looking into building a .224 Valkyrie this year and right now JP Enterprises is the only one offering the barrel. The TD is a 85 dollar option. Any Thoughts?

If you are running three gun, shoot in an area where the ambient temps are high or do the occasional mag dump then it may be a good thing to have.

The military rates the M16 family for a sustained rate of fire of 12 rounds per minute (without damage to the weapon system). so if you tend to fire more than 12 rounds per minute it may be a good thing to have.

JP is pricey for sure, but the fit and finish is as good as gets IMO.

I'm teeing up a .224 barrel kit from them for my Valkyrie build I plan on doing for 2018.

Yeah, I think for barrel burner calibers, this kind of thing could be just what the doctor ordered.

Its aluminum, if your not afraid of voiding the warranty just mill the thing to fit in whatever hand guard you want. Sure you will have less heat transfer because of lost surface area but it should still be better than just the barrel.

I don't see this as necessary at all. I do indeed well exceed 12 rounds a minute throughout my range days but I have seen no adverse effect in accuracy or barrel wear. I'm well past 5k through my AR's original factory barrel and its still going strong. Proly get another 5k out of it.

12 rounds a minute is barely shooting, you gotta get that bitch HOT to see why a dissipator works.

Pod, serious question; have you ever shot a JP? It is most definitely not a "typical" AR in terms of accuracy, they're right up there with Compass Lake for well put together builds and parts.
