The Russian Defense Ministry said the ship sank in a storm while being towed to a port. Russia earlier said the flames on the ship, which would typically have 500 sailors on board, forced the entire crew to evacuate. It later said the blaze had been contained and that the ship would be towed to port with its missile launchers intact.

Oh it was. The USA has admitted now it’s giving detailed intelligence in that area to target Russian assets.

Since the war started Russia has had 15k+ casualties, now withdrawn its entire northern offensive, defaulted on its national debt (first time in over a century), and now lost its flagship Black Sea warship to some guys in a truck, who distracted it with a couple of cheap drones.

This war is going so badly for Russia it’s almost scarier because it represents an existential crisis for the country. All of its own making. It chose this path willingly. Just beggars belief how they could mess up so severely.

The reason they haven’t struck these shipments is because they can’t. They don’t know where they are and/or can’t hit them anyway. I keyed into the true effectiveness of Russia’s military a few years ago reading about their aircraft carrier. Here is a laughing stock that they keep working on. The ship doesn’t even go to sea without a tugboat close by—not a joke. It actually needs that thing. It doesn’t even have planes that launch off it after one crashed into it a few years ago. Meanwhile we have like 9 (more?) massive carrier fleets with all the fixins. Russia is a generation behind militarily. And all their bluster and big man talk doesn’t thicken the armor on their disco-era tanks.

But, a warship in good condition probably would have been able to control the damage.

And certainly the Russians have a well deserved reputation as an absolute train wreck of a naval power.

From their "aircraft carrier" that spends more time under tow than under power to the legendary Baltic fleet debacle of 1904 they have proven that Russia and Water do not mix.
