CNN is saying the plane shot down over Kiev was Ukranian not Russian.
We speak English in the US.... well almost everyone here legally anyways. That doesn't make us subjects of the royal crown.
There is no separate American language that we choose not to speak. There is a Ukranian language, but people still speak Russian. Your parallel fails.

Looks like they will be there soon. I assume the fighting will get a little more intense .
If they dont have enough infantry in the the two mechanized columns, to engauge in a battle in the city , I would guess they might have to re take the airport first .
Thats going to be a tough fight for obvious reasons .or they may have to delay an attack until the infantry arrives

I'll make it clearer. Speaking a language doesn't make you a subject of the people who the language is named for. Doesn't matter if they have "their own language" or not.
Choosing one language over the other shows which culture is closer to you.
I grew up there. Half of the people in my class had Ukrainian last names. Ukranian language and literature were mandatory subjects in school. We all laught at Ukranian words, some of them sound stupid to Russian speaking people.

It’s not about the language. You fail to realize that the reason they all speak Russian in that part of Ukraine is that for all intensive purposes, they are Russian and that Putin is seen as a liberator in that part of Ukraine. It’s only as you make your way East do those lines begin to blur.

I'm guessing (though not sure of on it) that the <8% that voted not to be independent could have moved to Russia any time, or at least easily.

Alternatively, one could see this situation as 2 different ethnic groups living as oppressed and suppressed people trapped inside Ukraine and Putin is coming to free them, Russians indeed could be viewed as liberators of an oppressed minority group. Putin believes this to be a liberation operation, not an invasion.

13 brave souls stood up to a Russian Warship. While in the end the 13 died in a no win situation their response “Go fuck yourself” is indicative of how this war is going to go. I certainly hope Americans will have that kind of courage when faced with a similar situation.

BTW here's a map of ukraine based on those who call russia their first language. So yeah, if Russia tries to occupy ukraine and faces years of having its troops randomly shot at checkpoints by ukranian citizens you will know why. Most of that country absolutely sees russia as nothing but an imperialist. Many will absolutely fight to the death to stop this, and when russia's military finishes theirs and topples its government the underground resistance will be a thorn in russia's side indefinitely.
