Make no mistake, Xi is very carefully watching the worlds reaction to Putin's adventurism. If out reaction is little more than "stop, or I'll say stop again" he will take that as a green light.
If we do not react strongly, we are sending the message that "Imperialism is back on the menu boys".
People do not realize how incredibly peaceful the world has been since 1945. The Pax Americana is very real, and may be ending.
Most people have no idea what the world will look like if we revert to the pre-1945 state of perpetual war. The minor skirmishes we have been involved in since then are nothing in the grand scheme of things.

But Russia is pretty resilient they have been dealing with crap like this for decades I'm sure it's not an unexpected surprise. It's going to hurt them short term but look for them to develop their own system or cooperate with china.
This action may very well be a catalyst for the USD losing some or all of its global reserve currency status, and when that day happens our debt will matter. It will be game over.

I think there are some things China is observing in all this. Currently it “appears” a small country being invaded by a far larger and numerically superior enemy is so far doing decently well against them. A numerically smaller Air Force “appears” to be putting up a decent fight. Ukraines use of javelin missiles “seems” to be doing a heck of a job against enemy armor. Bevause Russia has not steam rolled over Ukraine in 24-48hrs it is giving the rest of the world time to come together and engage against Russia by either economic sanctions or by providing more and more support to Ukraine. If the world was to cut chinas economy off and remove China from banking that could seriously hurt China. Xi is a brutal cruel dictator, but he is smart. Why have all out war with the risks that come with it, when you can accomplish it thru other means.

As has been said repeatedly in this thread "the first casualty is truth" clearly that's evident in "instant" internet based media and social media.
Anyone can post anything and make it look damn convincing and truthful.

5 – The US should DESTROY Russia financially by cutting off the SWIFT Bank from Russia. The only counterbalance to that ABSURD statement is that NATO isn’t s9 keen about that. Never once mentioning how that would result in all gas and oil being shut off to Europe, and would drive Russia into the ChiComs arms and ¥¥¥¥?
6 – Jackie Speir of the Armed Services Committee says Pres. Bidinh is doing a fantastic job … handling Russia (sic).

I never gave it a second of thought when this started. But now, I think it's possible they can draw this out into a protracted stalemate or make it too costly for Russia.

Soviets didn't try to Russify Ukraine. In fact they created Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic by ADDING territory in the East, which was populated by ethnic Russians. Donbass region was Russia's center for coal mining. It added more proletariat to Ukrainian peasantry. The symbolic hammer and sickle, which is a communist ideal. They also made Ukrainian language and literature mandatory subjects in schools throughout all regions of the republic.
When this was all one country it didn't really matter, but when Soviet Union broke up and Ukraine ended up with artificially created borders, this is the root of the problem in Ukraine today.

They won’t win. Russia doesn’t care about killing civilians. I had this conversation last night and a guy said well maybe the Russian forces won’t kill civilians. I said they don’t have to do it by pointing a gun and pulling the trigger. A general can give coordinates and say push the button and it’s done.
