A broader war might be averted , if the Ukraine surrenders those regions , probably not very likely.

If so why the uproar now? To be honest it’s hard to know if anything we here or see is true anymore coming from anywhere. That’s the sad state we find ourselves in. The map of the world for that region seems to be in a constant flux and I’m sure it will be long after we’re all gone.
Ukraine was part of Russia, then it wasn't, then it was, etc.
I'm not a Russian apologist.
But it's a complicated issue and IMO frankly we shouldn't be in the middle of it.

When Ukraine rejoined Russia in 1654 and Ukrainian getyman swore allegiance to Russian czar, Ukraine had only 15% of the territory it had when it left Soviet Union. The rest of the territory was added by Russian Czars from captured territories, by Lenin through cutting off Russian territory, by Stalin through re-unification with Western Ukraine and Khrushchev by giving it Crimea.

It's honestly a lot worse. The fact that CNN can even criticize a president, and do so regularly, makes it a completely different animal than RT. For a country that ostensibly dislikes facism they sure like their "strongman", and snuffing out any criticisms against him, including leveraging techniques from imprisonment to assassination. Russia is a pretty good representation of a fascist regime.
RT is an example of how state media can be biased and yet informative. It's not like Putin bashing drivel is not within reach of anyone, including lifeforms on Mars. Someone has to give him a break.
