The way I see it , NATO antagonized Russia by placeing weapons in Ukraine knowing full well Russia could/would not accept it . Ukraine was already on board with NATO like Finland or Sweden, The west pretty much had control of Ukraine. They didnt have to do this , and it was a win win for them . Russia does nothing, win. In my opinion, Russia is being lured into a guerrilla war which will cost them dearly and break the back of her economy .
If Ukraine strikes back , it may or may not, I dont know, I guess it will at some point. The Russian response will be to attack , and then they will be embroiled in a guerrilla war that will cost them .

You choose to make it simple. Many reject your premise because they remember the lies told about russiagate and the demonization of that country as a result. Others look at the ukraine as the corrupt ATM machine for the democratic party and wonder what the national interest of this country is (as distinct and separate from the interest of biden and the democratic party).
Putin is a dictator with blood on his hands. The Ukraine is a separate country that went from being a russian puppet to an american puppet. Putin sees the encroachment of NATO as a threat to his country, which is headlong into a demographic death spiral and whose options get limited with each passing year.
What Putin did was wrong, but it is incorrect to view this as a simple matter.

It's a shit hole because on most metrics it is somewhere between the west and third world countries.
As I've said in the past the list of non-shithole countries is quite limited, and defined by per capita income, freedom of speech/press, security, life expectancy--etc.
Russia has a paltry per capita income. It has very limited freedom of the press and political expression, it jails political opponents and in some cases kills them. Its tech sector is a joke, etc.
It's not a shithole in its entirety of course. Much of it is nice and to your point the people there in general have the same life goals as people across the planet: Live in peace, provide for family. There are great people from every country, including Russia. Doesn't make their government any less corrupt or oppressive--which is part of the reason they continue to struggle when measured against the west.
