Thinking About A New Pistol

43X MOS? 19 MOS?

My EDC is a Springfield XDS 45. I want to go with a WML and optic. While this can be done on the XDS, aftermarket support for holsters and such is either very limited or non existent.

If I go to the 9mm, that means ammo which I have very little of in the way of 9mm. I have a decent amount of 45. But I can sell/trade.

But I remember when I bought the XDS, I had looked at the Glock 45 ACPs, the G30, I believe. It didn't fit my hand well. My sausage link fingers are too short for the nearly 3" trigger reach.

Just really thinking out loud here. Thoughts?

I think you will be happy with either of those Glocks. I carry the Glock 43 OWB under my t shirt in the summer. Hardly noticeable. I have the Glock 19 in a tool bag I carry next to my seat daily.

I love my 19 and 43, but i also want the 43x mos. Since we are restricted to 10+1 there is no benefit of capacity. The single stack 43x mos will be nicer to carry.

Glock for the win. They’re plenty reliable and more accurate than the shooter that’s firing it. Has the largest aftermarket of parts out there no matter which model you choose. If you need or want parts or accessories, there’s a ton of companies that carry everything and anything for them. The length of the grip between the 19 and 43X are identical at 5.04”. Since the grip is the section that sticks out the most when conceal carrying, choosing one based off of magazine capacity doesn’t matter at all since they are the exact same length regardless. But with the 19 you’ll get a slightly longer barrel and longer sight radius. The 19 also accepts all the other double stack 19 mags like from the 17, 34, 17L. The 43X also does not have a rail to allow a good quality weapon mounted light, the 19 does. The 43X wouldn’t be a bad choice, as long as you’re happy with the limitations it has. Between the two I’d go 19.

43x MOS has a rail and the TLR-7 Sub is made for it.

Shield Arms makes 15 round mags for it if you ever get out of NY.

I love mine. Added night sights and a Talon grip. 31 rounds on hand in a small package and fits my large hands well.

The 43X isn’t a bad option like I mentioned before, as long as you’re happy with what you’re giving up for choosing it. If you chose the 19 and you ever moved out of NY, you could use the standard 15rd mags for Glock 19’s that are cheaper than the $40 S15’s for the 43X/48. You could even pick up the 15rd Magpul GL9 mags for around $12 each. Then if you want, you could use 17rd Glock 17/34 mags. You could even buy the 33rd extended magazines for the same price as an S15 mag. The Glock 19 also allows for much better options for a weapon mounted lights than the TLR-7 Sub which is a relatively low performing wml. With the 43X you are pretty much stuck with either choosing the Holosun 407K, 507K, or Trijicon RMRcc. With the Glock 19 you get to choose from much nicer optics since the slide is slightly wider and accepts the higher end of pistol optics like an Aimpoint ACRO P-2, Trijicon RMR, Holosun 509T, Holosun 508T, Leupold DPP. The 19 also weighs a little more since it’s a double stack magazine design, which is helpful with recoil management. Guns that weigh more help mitigate muzzle rise, anyone that’s shot a Ruger LC9 knows it’s much snappier than say shooting a Glock 34. The only reason to not choose the 19 over the 43X is because you don’t think you’re able to carry it because it’s slightly longer overall, but if you put a Streamlight TLR-7 Sub on a 43X…it is now sticking out passed the muzzle and is about the same length of a Glock 19 anyway.

Will makes some valid points but I personally could not imagine carrying a 19 daily, though I know lots do. 5-6 ounces in a carry gun make a big difference.

I have a 45 as a HD/bedside gun with a cheap and bulky CT light…it’s heavy and I would rarely choose to carry it over the 43x because of that. And don’t mind the FDE mag, only 17 round mag I could find in stock in town, need to order some.

Every person is different, some people aren’t comfortable carrying larger guns for the shear fact that they are not in decent shape and it’s difficult for them. But choosing how you carry and what you use matters quite a bit. If you’re IWB or AIWB carrying, what size pants are you wearing? Did you make sure to get pants that are one size bigger to compensate for the gun and holster? What holster are you using? What belt are you using? As I'm typing this I’m carrying my comp’d 19 (which is longer than a 34), w/ Surefire X300U, w/ 18+1rds in it and a 20rd mag in the side caddy in a Tier 1 Concealment Axis Elite holster without an issue.

Weight isn't too much of an issue. The right holster/belt helps with that. When I was younger (much), I used to carry my 6" 686 in a shoulder holster because it was what I had. Later on I carried my stainless Colt Officer. In between there I had a Beretta 92.

Currently, it's an XDS 45 3.3" in an Alien Gear IWB with a Hank's belt.

I've shot the 19 before. Although the P80 frame seems to fit better. The 26/27/30 size doesn't feel right to me. Feels too...."fat" for the height/length if that makes sense.

I like the way the 19 balances. I have no desire to go to the 17 size.

I know you mentioned you shot the Glock 30 before. But the 30 definitely is a fatter gun even though it’s their “sub-compact” 45acp. Sometimes people think that the other sub-compacts (26,27…) would end up being the same size because they get lumped together in the sub-compact category, but they’re not. The 30 is a chonky boi lol. I do really enjoy my 19, I don’t see it being too big to carry. Not always but usually the people that have an issue with carrying a 19 is because they have subpar belts, holsters, or/and are not in the greatest of shape.

Looked at the Sig P320, HK VP9, and a Steyr. I liked them all.

To me this is a no brainer: get the G19. This shortage crisis has shown that stocking a few main calibers can be advantageous and 9mm has dropped in price a little lately, supply has improved. Also with the XDS you have the single stack subcompact base covered already while the Glock 19 is a good all purpose size pistol. That said perhaps in NY the 10 round single stack Glock 48 might make more sense? I belive the 48 has an MOS version as well.

After some quick reading and research, I think out of those 3, the P320 would be the choice for what I'm wanting to do.

Honestly any of the striker fired, polymer fired pistols would suit you. I find them all to be so similar as to make little difference. Both the P320 and the Glock are perfectly fine pistols. I have both, I like both. The Glock 19 is by fractionall margins one of the smallest and lightest compact pistols and I find it to be just slightly more concealable than it's competitors. In fact I rarely carry my Walther PPQ because of this. But then I rarely carry my Glock 19 now since I got the S&W Shield Plus. In fact check out the M&P pistols as well, they are very ergonomic guns.
