You may be thinking of the NYC police officers who are stuck with a 12lb trigger by department policy, but nothing in the law AFAIK. I personally wouldn't go too light for an EDC weapon, but if you want a 4oz trigger on your benchrest rifle, go for it.

my bench rest musket ( its to dang heavy to hold offhand ) hit the set trigger and main trigger is just under 1oz ..

As others have said, currently there is no law in NY relating to trigger weight. That said, it's always something we wonder if it's going to show up in proposed laws because Massachusetts does have such a law and we all know NY always wants to stay ahead of any other states with the most strict gun laws.
I could be mistaken on this, but I'm pretty sure even the Mass. law (10 lbs ?) doesn't say anything about modifying handgun triggers pulls post purchase, but rather only applies to newly manufactured pistols at the time of sale by a dealer.

Thanks for the replies guys. I thought it was weird when someone told me that. Well now I know who not to listen to when it comes to gun laws...lol
@spat touched on this in post #4 of this thread , but to add just a little something to that it's worth mentioning perhaps that besides for the Mass. law probably one major reason there is sometimes some confusion here is that those 11# triggers used on the NYPD's glocks (required by dept. policy, not law) go by the designation NY1 and NY2 triggers; however they are often referred to simply as 'NY Trigger'.

Just as a point of clarification, not that it is all that relevant to the OP.
The NY1 trigger spring is OD green, and it bumps the factory 5.5lb trigger to about 8.5lbs. This trigger spring is currently in use by NYSP on their G37s.
The NY2 trigger spring is orange, and in bumps the trigger to about 12lbs. This is currently in use by NYPD.
I have G19s with each of these springs. They both have their uses in my guns.

How about the fire on pull + fire on release triggers like the fostech and franklin armory? Legal in the andy reich?
