Hmmmm, tin foil hat here. I'm thinking NK sold something and no longer needs to work on nukes. That something being a warhead. Perhaps the whole program was a cover for the developement of the technology and transaction to the real, still unknown, threat. What country would put this much effort into something just to up and do a complete 180? We either threatended them with something too unimaginable for lil kim, or they have acheived their goal(s), whatever they may be, and no longer need to keep at it. Joke's on us.

Is it possible the sanctions are working? Is it fathomable that the people of NK are under such extreme duress that rocket man can no longer keep the serfs/prisoners contained......and alive?
I'm all for it . I don't see any harm coming from talking and negotiating. But I don't want to see us get played again.
To say this is a surprise us an understatement but more proof of the effect Donald trump is having on the rest of the world.
Its highly unusual that NK spent so much of its treasure developing nukes and missiles only to so quickly shift and give up their program. I can't wonder if they have sold or exported their technology.

If NK truly gives up their nukes/chemical/biological weapons it would be the best foreign policy accomplishment since the end of the cold war.
If they give it up then as far as I'm concerned I can't see any reason why we would give 2 shots about NK anymore. They can go do their thing while we do ours.

You may be right, but what doesn't make sense is why would Kim need nukes as a bargaining chip for reunification? Unless of course he has no intentions of letting go of power, then it makes more sense. I really don't think it is a simple as "okay, I got them to look and take me seriously, now I can scrap my nukes and we can talk reunification". NK and SK could have done that without all the retoric and brinksmanship with the US and certainly without the development of nuclear weapons.

I heard a foreign affairs expert speculate that much of the North Korean nuclear program was a joint effort with Iran. Iran is doing their research and testing in North Korea to avoid detection. North Korea wants nuclear capability of their own as well as the Iranian money.
Bottom line: If Trump's tough talk and sanctions work and achieve verifiable denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, he will score a tremendous two-for-one deal. That would certainly put him in the running for a Nobel Peace Prize (which they'd never give him).

I don't buy reunification either. The fact that he has agreed to meet him is because he wants to remain in power and knows he can lose it if he continues.

Ahhh....but Jung Un does want reunification. He just wants it to be reunified under the control of the North's regime.
It will be a long term, step by step process. No one will have to give up power, declare victory or admit defeat.

I disagree with this. China has a vested interest in at least keeping the status quo. I'm sure they would love a fully communist Korean peninsula as much as we would like a fully free one. The US isn't the only party pulling strings on the Koreans.
Are we still trying to stop communist take over of the world? 1950's mentality is simply inapplicable in today's world.
