It comes as no surprise that President Elect Trump stands behind the 2nd Amendment, and it’s also no secret that Clinton would have passed more restricted gun control legislation. What though, does Trump have planned while in office?

The previous bills that got voted down in the past stated that you still had to follow the laws of your home state and get a license from your own home state.

So a poor guy from NYC would be assed out. He would not be able to carry on a Florida non resident. The only way around that would be for him to change his residence to another state.

Sounds like "Common Sense" to me! Trump needs to come up with a strategy to "Cement" the 2nd from being Held hostage or lost from the Evil Progressives. We have seen the Attack on the 2nd from all different angles for decades now. We know how they operate and need to counter. True but with the proper justices in place that can be resolved as well albeit I do not like the idea of a permit for a right

We need to attack this like the gun grabbers have, keep flinging stuff at the wall and see what sticks. Present pro gun bill, after bill, over and over and over again. Do it in baby steps. Get suppressors off NFA, then go after SBRs and SBSs, dismantle the NFA piece by piece. National Reciprocity is top priority. Killing SAFE act may be tricky. We need the Supreme Court first.

Guys, we will organize a regular letter writing campaign. We can all take turns writing a form letter that everyone can copy and we can email to elected officials. We will send them to him and everyone possible to push for these things once he is inaugurated.

We also need to bombard the NRA because their lobbyists will be the ones to really get through to him.

What will national reciprocity do for those who can't get a concealed permit in their home jurisdictions?

If I reside in NY, it is legal for the state to require that I have a NY driver's license. They could do the same with concealed carry. NY could deem it illegal for residents of NY to carry without a valid NY-issued permit. So, my Florida permit would only be useful for me outside of NY.

Right now, any "may issue" state is in violation of these Scotus decisions. But of course im no legal scholar.

But, as long as it is "legal" for states to impose the limits that they now do, I think that it is an assault on state sovereignty (i.e. 10th amendment) for the federal government to force states to acceded to centralized control.

I would prefer SCOTUS to rule state infringements in the 2A to be illegal and unconstitutional, first.

By the way, I don't think the federal government forces states to recognize driver's licenses from other states. It is a matter of mutual agreement.

Agreed, although driving isnt a constitutionally enumerated right. The fed would have to sue the state for the violation of its citizens right, ie: unsafe act(as someone else mentioned in one of the other thread).

Like I say step by step. If National Reciprocity can get passed once you have out of staters legally, safely, uneventfully CCing in your state it will be very difficult for the state gov't to legally justify continued suppresion or outright denial of your CCW rights. The mere passing of a National Reciprocity law might blow away NYS may (but not really) issue policies. Either way there are things that we all need to support even if it seems you will not benifit from at first. We have to get the ball rolling, once it does things will start to come along. This has been the big problem with the pro gun movement, we want it all right away, and not getting it all we then get nothing. Its like choping ice off the side walk, gotta keep pick, picking away. Set precedents, use those precedents for further gain, advance gun rights like a powerful glacier, slow at first but with unstoppable force.
