Uh oh, House pass'es mandatory draft registration for all males

The U.S. House of Representatives has recently passed an amendment as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025.

The amendment H.R. 8070 will automatically register all draft-age male U.S. residents with the Selective Service System for a possible military draft, based on information from other Federal databases.

This new system of automatic draft registration would replace the existing system, in place since 1980, in which young men have the freedom to decide whether or not to sign up for the draft.

Automatic Registration: The Military Selective Service Act (50 U.S.C. 3801 et seq.) is amended by striking section 3 (50 U.S.C. 3802) and inserting the following new section 3:

“SEC. 3. (a)(1) Except as otherwise provided in this title, every male citizen of the United States, and every other male person residing in the United States, between the ages of eighteen and twenty-six, shall be automatically registered under this Act by the Director of the Selective Service System.

Am I missing something here? I fail to see how this is a big deal. Manual registration is and has been mandatory, automating the process seems like a logical cost cutting measure.
Any concerns regarding the actual activation of the draft is a matter for the ballot box as opposed to worrying about how the registry itself works.
I don't have a dog in this fight anyways.

To me, this is a great thing! There is only one way that this can work….

They obviously have the definition of, “What is a male?”, so therefore they must ALSO have the definition of, “What is a female?”
Now that they can finally define “male” and “female”, let them put that information out there and put this whole “trans” bullshit to bed once and for all.

Draft registration should be gender free. All should be subject to the draft or none. Women want DEI and special treatment in other sectors of society, tear down this barrier.

Women don't like to lose arguments. Can you imagine an elite all women's special forces unit on PMS?

Such a sad state of affairs that the first thought in my mind was that there will be "its/thems/theys" that challenge "male".

Yet another example of how our government wastes time and resources working up and passing laws/rules/amendments that ARE ALREADY ON THE BOOKS.

Men might have a freedom to decide, but (from Selective Service System website) :

Penalties for Failing to Register​

If required to register with Selective Service, failure to register is a felony punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or 5 years imprisonment. Also, a person who knowingly counsels, aids, or abets another to fail to comply with the registration requirement is subject to the same penalties.
Unless a man provides proof that he is exempt from the registration requirement, his failure to register will result in referral to the Department of Justice for possible investigation and prosecution.
In addition to potential criminal penalties, failure to register may make a man permanently ineligible for the benefits listed above.
NOTE: Some States have created additional consequences for men who fail to register.

I thought that was the purpose in this bill. It was to remove gender. All 18-26 year old citizens and legal residents.

Personally, I would prefer to make that statement in person. Like taxes automatically removed from your pay check, it is a separation unfelt. Things that affect you deeply and personally should be felt, should have an impact on your psyche, they are things a man should reflect upon.
