Under 1k AR market gone?

I was out looking around for an AR 15 today. One shop had several around 1400.00 for the lowest price point. When I inquired if there was anything they saw come through for under 1k he said not much if anything now was coming in at that price point.

Is that your experience or should I keep driving a little further away to find something closer to 1k?

Delayed, not gone. May take a year or three to calm down. Panic buyers and profiteers right now. A capitalistic economy I'll take it any day because in a socialist-communist economy there will be no guns.

A buddy of mine just dropped about $700 into a bargain-basement build. The same build would have been in the ballpark of $400 at this time last year.

Now is not the time to be getting into or upping your stakes in the AR game.

The same reason the only ammo for it you'll find on the shelf is $0.80 a round.

Anything cheaper will sell out before you see it.

The market is totally nuked man. Whatever is available will be at an inflated price. Budget stuff will be scarce for sometime i have heard availability of guns and ammo won't return to normal for 1 year and prices won't be back to normal for another year after that. If you need something right now grit your teeth and get ready to pay the price.
I would say that tye higher end of the market is somewhat less affected by the panic, prices haven't risen quite so much and availability is somewhat greater. Good excuse to splurge on something top notch if you can afford to.

I have one place ( Ulster Firearms ) I want to check out because they appear to not be gouging people and they post they keep getting stuff in. I also started looking because I finally got a chance to shoot a friends AR and it was ridiculous how easy it was to shoot. I am pretty into my Rem 870 though so if the AR market is just gone nuts it is what it is. I was looking more seriously for my wife because the shotgun scares her a little. If I stumble on what feels like a fair deal, I’ll jump on it.
I just have to get her out to shoot a few rounds of some birdshot to see it’s not bad at all, especially with a LimbSaver on as the recoil pad, then move her up the line to 00. If I can get her to do that then I can get what I really want which is a decked out Baretta 1301 ( though finding that is proving pretty difficult also ).

Buy a kit ($500) and lower ($100) and I'll help you build. ... takes 2 hours max.

Awhile back I saw where PSA had complete lowers and complete uppers that totaled something like $380 if memory serves. Pop 2 pins and you have an AR lacking only the rear sight or optic of your choice.

I alerted a buddy down south and he bought 4 or 5 of them and 2 or 3 dozen metal mags at $6 or $7 apiece. Thanked me and then laughed at me and said, "Don't you wish you could?"

ETA --- I just texted him to ask if it was 4 or 5 that he bought. He says, "Hell, I've got so many now I can't remember what I bought when or for how much."

Jack....its simple. Now is not the time. Even if you find one in the sub 1k range ( as I did during written this post on Gun Broker, specifically the Sig Sauer m400 tread, which was 950) findings ammunition at reasonable prices ( that itself is funny) the quantity you may be able to purchase will be overpriced, limited and then limit your enjoyment of it to "ration rounds ". If I may suggest, wait ti out for awhile or builder one.

my wife fired a 20 gauge shotgun once and said “nope!” She shoots the AR9 I bought because it was there. I modified it with an A1 stock and an 11 ounce buffer. It shoots smooth and has reduced recoil.

from the LGS here .. All solid color Ar's start at 900.00 .. for now .. but they say who knows, if the parts prices keep going up the sale price will too ..

few months ago all solid colors were 799.00 ..

If you’re concerned about bans, just go buy a couple stripped lowers and tuck them away. Since they are the serialized part, they’re the only part that has to go through a FFL. Yeah, the price of lowers is up a little, but they’re not stupid-high. All of the other parts will probably still be available at market prices if a ban is enacted.

NY Shooter Supply inn Albany has plenty of stripped lowers for $99 or less. Decent complete build kits in stock for $600-something with sights. Plenty of magazines and quality ammo under .70 a round.

I was originally trying to find a reasonably priced AR that's NYS compliant and it was impossible right now. You could find some cheaper non-compliant rifles online (like an M&P), but that does you no good. So, I just built my own. It cost me about $1k without the an optic. That's with a Timney Impact trigger, Ballistic Advantage 223 Wylde stainless barrel, nickel boron BCG, quad M-Lok rail, and a bunch of Strike Industries parts.

Nice thing about it too you can build a beater now and improve it later when (if?) things calm down. Still going to cost more than it normally should. If I were in the market right now I would be looking to build rather than buy.

And just where are you going to find lowers right now ? They are sold out and on back order everywhere. Your more likely to find dinosaur fossils in your backyard than a stripped lower right now

PSA has a bunch in stock for as low as $70. They're shipping within two days right now too. Buddy of mine ordered from them last Friday, and his lower was delivered to the FFL yesterday.

I don’t want to get too far off the topic but when you guys are talking about building an AR-15 is it as simple as finding a COMPLETE lower and COMPLETE upper kit on a site like PSA? I was looking at their PSA-15 kits and it appears they have complete lowers and complete uppers available. I am not ordering this but just as an example to see if it’s as easy at it appears.. would this shopping cart have all the required pieces to build a working AR-15? Minus a magazine it looks to me like this is along the lines of what I need to order and then have my local gunsmith PIN my mag?

It can be, but that's not how you save money. Usually by building, people mean from stripped receivers. It's more work for you, but you get to customize and use the exact parts you want (assuming they are in stock).

To go further off topic- if you don't have one and are planning on acquiring one and only one AR- go featureless so you can have changeable mags.

Otherwise you have a sexy range toy / black metal and polymer club that you can use to defend yourself when you run out of rounds.
