New gun laws start Sept. 1 but still no guidance from NYS on implementation
New gun laws start Sept. 1 but still no guidance from NYS on implementation
In a filing with 10 pages devoted to challenge standing, the AG office indicated that an upstate gun owner would not have to follow expectations from the new requirements, maybe they are stupid but most believe the office was just lying or playing word games e.g. recertification vs renewal vs re-issued etcAnyone else seen this ?

It only makes sense that someone with a concealed carry permit has to take a class on the legal use of a firearm in crowded public spaces. After 40+ yrs of cc I now need to be trained on gun safety/use.
Good to see you agree with your governor. It only makes sense that someone with a concealed carry permit has to take a class on the legal use of a firearm in crowded public spaces.
I never said I agree with the new law. I don't like most of it.Good to see you agree with your governor.
I took plenty of training 40 years ago when I was a young man and I was issued a license. It was the responsible thing to do. Along the way I have taken tons of other training as well. Some official, some privately. It only makes sense that someone with a concealed carry permit has to take a class on the legal use of a firearm in crowded public spaces.
I have no problem with 7 hours of class training, to be repeated every 10 years.I took plenty of training 40 years ago when I was a young man and I was issued a license. It was the responsible thing to do. Along the way I have taken tons of other training as well. Some official, some privately.
However;
Requiring anything other than a brief safety familiarization and intro to the appropriate laws is in violation of rights. By brief I mean brief, like a class that is done by lunchtime and is free to attend.
And I suppose you would agree with doing something similar when it comes to voting too, right?I have no problem with 7 hours of class training, to be repeated every 10 years.
And a field exam, repeated every 10 years.
If we are going to let people shoot guns in public we better make sure they know what they're doing.
It's called "common sense" and "public safety".
No, just..... no.I have no problem with 7 hours of class training, to be repeated every 10 years.
And a field exam, repeated every 10 years.

Apples & Oranges, my friend. And I suppose you would agree with doing something similar when it comes to voting too, right?
There is zero chance the Supreme Court will ever rule that requiring safety classes and field test is unconstitutional for a concealed carry permit. No, just..... no.
And stop with the 'common sense' and 'public safety' crap. Weasel leftist words.
Feel free to take all that training yourself. Maybe do the same for your driver's license too, it is after all, good common sense. Hell, I wasn't even aware that we "let" people shoot guns in public.I have no problem with 7 hours of class training, to be repeated every 10 years.

At least he's consistent.Good to see you agree with your governor.
New York state driver's license requires a class and a driver's test.Feel free to take all that training yourself. Maybe do the same for your driver's license too, it is after all, good common sense. Hell, I wasn't even aware that we "let" people shoot guns in public.
You're probably not aware of the difference between a right and a privilege.New York state driver's license requires a class and a driver's test.
No reason a concealed carry permit should be any different.
Not surprising. From what I have learned about monroe they are an extremely liberal county. So even if upstate doesn’t not have too monroe probably would still make it a requirement just because they can.
Did he get his permit in the last three years? They may not be lying. If I remember correctly they said you’re subject to these training requirements if you recieved your permit over three years ago and currently have a permit. I could be wrong but I think that’s what I remember. In a filing with 10 pages devoted to challenge standing, the AG office indicated that an upstate gun owner would not have to follow expectations from the new requirements, maybe they are stupid but most believe the office was just lying or playing word games e.g. recertification vs renewal vs re-issued etc
“Plaintiff Antonyuk will not be required to have his license re-issued or renewed, and therefore will never be subject to any of these application requirements (the interview, social media disclosure, and training provisions).”
Who is shooting guns in public? That’s illegal. Also it’s not 7 hours of training every ten years. It’s 16 hours seat time and two hours range time. Is this range time per pistol? Now that you need a rifle license will this transfer to licenses? Good to know you’re ok with it because that makes it all better now.I have no problem with 7 hours of class training, to be repeated every 10 years.

I think at some point it certainly becomes a burden. You’re a leftist doesn’t this become cost prohibitive to the lower class and poor minorities? Isn’t this racist? There is zero chance the Supreme Court will ever rule that requiring safety classes and field test is unconstitutional for a concealed carry permit.
But go ahead and contest it.
And driving is a privilege not a right. Do you have to take a training to vote, free speech, right to a lawyer?New York state driver's license requires a class and a driver's test.
No reason a concealed carry permit should be any different.
That's exactly what I referred to in a post I wrote this AM, as I received it in my email.
Just as soon as they take classes in civics and the constitution. Who's already more responsible, us or the nys gov? Their job is to serve us not the other way around. It only makes sense that someone with a concealed carry permit has to take a class on the legal use of a firearm in crowded public spaces.
