The Catholics want to stop Biden from drinking a bit of wine and eating a hunk of bread because of his stance on Abortion. They won't though.

That's one of my frustrations with Catholics/Christians. Many use these organizations for their own gain or to be labeled as being "a Catholic" for example but don't actually want to follow the teachings and dogma of the religion. Those who don't actually try to live the lives of believers as the religion says absolutely should be denied communion or if they actively harm it should be excommunicated.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.


You either believe in it and follow it or you don't and don't deserve the benefits of such.

That all being said refusing a presumably confirmed person communion based on politics doesn't seem like a very Christian thing to me. There is a reason for the separation for church and state.

If one is a serious Catholic and not just the Sunday morning variety, supporting abortion is supporting murder, and therefore a sin. One can only receive communion after repentance, and you have to ask for that in confession.
Those are the rules of the church, so their position to deny communion is consistent with their tradition.
One of the many reasons I refused to be confirmed back in the day.

Funny thing is, like in most of society, there's a pretty huge divide between the top down rhetoric in Catholicism and the reality of the grass-roots. In Pope Francis, you get a commie-sympathizer, social-justice type. Among big Dem "Catholics" you have characters like Biden, Pelosi, and Stephen Colbert who wear their religion on their sleeves and show off their "piety" while going against really core tenets of the religion. Then you actually go to your local church and see that the congregation and parish priests are fairly-to-very conservative. The fact is, most lefties don't go to church. The ones that do tend not to be the core of any congregation and are more the "Easter and Christmas" crowd. The ones in politics only go for electability. Yea, Biden should be excommunicated. It shouldn't make a difference. If he's a real Catholic, he knows he shouldn't be taking communion anyway and doing so is another serious sin he's committing. If he just doesn't care, then he's obviously using his religion as a prop, which is as good a reason as any to excommunicate someone.

A religion has its principles. Follow them, or don't portray yourself as a true-believer. But that's asking too much from someone who makes a career out of making his life a façade.

It's not about kicking out all sinners.

It's about *unrepentant* sinners.

The whole point with catholicism (and Christianity in general) is that everyone is a sinner. To be a good christian isn't to not sin, it is to beg for forgiveness for your sins.

So, you don't kick out all the adulterers. You kick out the people who refuse to feel bad about it.

I hear you. Since you worship the Norse Pantheon, just explaining how it works in case you aren't familiar with how those things are understood by Catholics. I mean, I'm not a super-devout or true-believing Catholic, but I know that even the ones who are, know that there is, and has almost always been, a level of rot in the hierarchy that's gone up or down depending on the era.
