I've heard the triggers sucked and that there may be a few issues with reliability. I think at a price below the standard P01 or the above mention custom shop version at a price above, is the better option.

To further muddy the waters- This beauty, also on my list for a "high class" carry, would fulfill just about every role a pistol could: Carry, home defense, target shooting, envy generation.

CZ Compact SDP - (CZ Custom) - CZ-USA

The Sphinx SDP (not to be confused with CZ's in house custom version of the P01 which they also dubbed the SDP) is based of the CZ75 design and is more similar to the competing P01. The Sphinx SDP has an alloy frame to which a polymer grip housing is attached in a similar fashion to the STI 2011 grips. The P07 has an entirely polymer frame while the P01 is an all alloy frame. This is what the P07 was base off of. So for about 1/3 or 1/2 the price you can get a p07 and it's going to be just as nice, add a few bucks in CGW parts and you will still be less into it and have a better gun

By way of further clarification for the OP's benefit, in CZ parlance the "P" series is the compact (Glock 19 size) line while the "SP" series is the full size line. Very full size, I belive the SP01 has a 5" barrel? Both of these are updated versions of the venerable CZ75.
Excellent info here guys, thank you. I am thinking of one of the CZ compacts, either the P01 or the PCR. You think I would kick myself down the road if I get the PCR instead of the P01? Cheaper and I don't (currently) want a compact with a rail.
If you don't want or need the rail then I belive the PCR has a few small additional refinements over the standard P01, so I'd go with the former in your case. However do you already have a carry gun? If so why not opt for a big honkin' pistol? Better for the range and no hindrance in HD scenarios.Excellent info here guys, thank you. Ah. Because I DO NOT! I am waiting on delivery of a Sig P227 (10 round .45), hence my gravitating toward the compact CZ's.
I am not a good enough shot to run a gun that small!

Oh you prefer the decocker too? I was thinking I was the only one around here that saw no point whatsoever in having a manual safety on a DA/SA action.I think yer probably right, Pod. One advantage seems to be that the Kadet (.22 conversion kit) allegedly works a bit better on the PCR than the P01 (lockback on last). And if I do decide to get unrestricted, I don't think I'd want to mount light or laser for a carry rig. Plus the slight advantage of the more rounded front end. And, purely subjective - I think it looks better and distinctive.
Sucks that they make neither all in steel but I can live with aluminum to get the decocker instead of manual safety.

I had a Legion P226. Actually I thought it was an excellent pistol, trigger, sights, grips and additional checkering and contouring all really enhanced the already excellent handling of the design. I could not stand, however, the reduced controls. The decocker was harder to get to and the little nub of a slide release was downright painful to use. In the end after I got my License to Carry Firearms I opted to trade it in for a Walther PPQ and S&W Shield. I figured it didn't make much sense to have a big ol range queen gun and nothing else when I could trade it in for to much more practical guns. Even now that U have the carry guns well covered and I have a hankering for a large size metal framed DA/SA I think I would just rather have that BerettaSo. Huh. Heart versus hands versus brains versus wants.
I don't know why I see people in Google reviews, etc, that don't like Collector's in Hopewell. Guessing like all things human "personality goes a long way." Always had zero problems with good folks there; Scott don't know me from Adam but such a good dude every time me and the wife've been in. Anyways.
I got over there yesterday and hit a bunch of metal guns, to include CZ's I never handled before side by side with SIG's I had held/shot in different profiles. Very helpful.
I havent held Legion SIG's (226 and 229) until yesterday and admit I don't know what the big deal is. Finish is different for sure. They may be worth the extra but I aint got it. Some point I will need to get a 226 Navy, no doubt.
Onto what I'm zero'ing on.
The CZ compacts were a bit smaller than I expected. Digging the PCR but smaller than I expected. P01 about the same but chunky as expected with the rail. Out of the box, the PCR trigger/decocker was much smoother than the P01. Leaning toward a PCR and tossing on some larger grips.
Point for point- if I had no other gun in the house, I would go P226 in a heartbeat. If I didn't have a P227 on the way, I would go P229. The SIG's, as always, felt great- but pricey.
Locking in on the PCR with another set of grips.
Appreciate all the feedback.
Screw you! You suck! You're gonna cost me some money! That's gonna hafta go on the list too! Now knock that shit off!!@BDinPutnam:

That is money right there! Those are the VZ red grips in G10. Kinda has the look of rosewood to me.
