This baffles my mind about amendments.
Chemung the only reason you would have to wait for picking up a new handgun purchase is if you buy it on a Friday or a Monday. Our pistol permit office is only open Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. Stop in give them your paperwork and $4 they give you your new license and a slip saying you can go get your gun 5min tops (unless there is a line)

That's freaking awesome! You would think when you live in a state that the state rules to all counties not one county gives you a new gun in five minutes and another county it takes three months!? Idiotic and quite honestly it's embarrassing how broken the system is.
Right before this forum I figured that's how it worked everywhere (besides NYC but that's because that's New Jersey so it doesn't count) hell the county over is open 5 days a week vs our 3 days and same day pick up, they will even give you a temp purchasing stub so if you go out of town or to a gun show you can bring it home with you then update your license (it's only good for like 2 weeks max or something)
Guess you haven't made a purchase recently. The new judges they brought into Putnam seem to have fucked things up.

A friend of mine had turned in his paperwork in Dutchess. When the office called to schedule photos and prints, they told him 11 months. Things are slowly getting worse in Dutchess also. Amendments are running 3 weeks.
Hello everyone. First time in this forum. I am contacting you guys to get some advise on the pistol permit process in Westchester. Sorry in advance if my questions are very naive. My goal is to get a permit to shot at the range in weekends. What kind of permit I need to request and with what kind of restrictions? Thanks for your help.

Go on the county clerks website and download the application. Go for the sportsman if you can meet their requirements. If you just want to target shoot settle for that permit.

Sportsmen you need to bring your hunting license. I forgot mine so just got a target. Need to bring a receipt for pistol to purchase (need a pistol purchased in westchester). Be polite. Be prepared. Foloow directions exactly. Black ink only, front and back printing where it says. And do the paperwork immediately. My appointmemt was set 6 months out, they called me about 2 months in and asked me to come in the next morning.
Thanks for the information!! I served in the army while I live in Europe. I completed my military service there and I was trainned with different firearms including the pistol that intended to buy here. I still hold a valid firearm license from there. Since I become a US citizen, I completed a couple of introductory courses in NJ and I am planning to complete the pistol course required for Westchester in Blueline Tactical. Questions: to what extend my military experience could hurt me in my application? It was mandatory military service and I completed it it without any issue. Do I need to provide any paper for that? What about my foreign firearm license; do I need to provide a copy it? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!!
None of it will help whatsoever, and it will probably hurt your process.

Uh, thats a unique position. Ask the Blue Line guys during youre course. Theyll set you straight. Also, foreign military service is irrelevant. Its not on paperwork. Only part military matters is the safety course is waived if youre ex U.S. military and have a DD214.

I got a Sportsperson amendment by explaining how I camp and hike regularly. I never said nor do I hunt.
Off topic, but congratulations on legally becoming a US citizen and trying to exercise your new rights. Well done.
