Which 9mm should I get?

I’m rather partial to my full size M&P 2.0 9 . They can be had on the cheap now with the 2 compact versions out . Granted SOS only has standard mags but will ship without mags . At this price you could buy a couple 10 round mags and with FFL transfer you’d still be under or at 400 bucks !

If I go glock should I bother with MOS? Seems like a lot of money but then saves probably the same amount if I had to get it milled down the road with a sight added?

The MOS system has a lot of failings. I would go with a normal slide and have it milled down the road.

Do not get the MOS, it sounds good but is not worth the mark up for the issues that it has had in the past and the inevitable weak points it will always have. You have have slides milled for $100-150 any day of the week with countless people doing so.

Or just released Agency Arms is doing their optic milling, it's a bit more expensive but seems to have all the benefits of a multi optic system (not just the glock MOS) but fixes a lot of the shortcomings others have had. (Sorry just actually saw a whole video on their system finally and it seems pretty solid)

SIG P320. No brainer! You can go sub compact, compact with a simple change of the grip modules. Caliber changes all on the same modular design.

So I’m a little biased with the VP9. My first gun, I shoot the most consistent with it.

I say whatever your looking at, if you don’t have the intent of carrying it, I say get a full size gun.

But if you wanted to carry it eventually, I’d say check out the VP9SK. I got the chance to shoot it and it pretty much felt the same as my full size. They also make the VP9B which has the button mag release. I really like the paddle release but for a lot of people who run drills and are used to the muscle memory of the button, they would probably find that one to suit them better.

I thought about pulling the trigger on the well discounted Sigs, but was scheming to have my wife feel she needed a more expensive, but now discontinued Dan Wesson Valor in black duty finish or a new American made P210 Target. Still working those but what a deal on the full size Sig Match Elite 9mm target. Damn that's a lot of gun for the 700 range. I think she also needs a 9mm P229 Legion Rx even though it is a Romeo optic.

Under $200 and you can get a new glock frame, yes its serialized but it's just as easy to swap a glock 3 pins

The MOS is nice since you can mount different optics on it.

Or by the regular glock and buy a new slide already milled. Some slides are about the same price as the milling service

I like this option better than the MOS, for multiple optic options (main reason against the MOS is MIM plate and how much higher it sits..)

Alrighty, I took the advice to go try some today! Firing pin's selection is extensive.

First tried Glock 17L, which is a close approximation to the 34 (they didn't have one). I'm an amateur with pistols so I can't really pretend it was "really accurate". I'm sure it was, but I'm not.

Next up a gen 4 and 5 Glock 19. The trigger on the 4 was yucky and I'm sure this was just because the gun needed to be cleaned. I only got one shot off on that because the Gen 5 mag did not take in it, so loaded one into the top for fun. I guess these are just the same as a 17 except smaller sight radius.

Next up was the HK VP9, which felt amazing. The grip on it really is nice. I absolutely hated the mag release. I think my hands are average size but it is impossible to hit it with my thumb without really twisting the gun a lot. I see online a lot of people use their trigger or middle finger to release it from the other side, which seems a good idea but potentially unsafe. I guess a person could get used to it. Guy said HK is supposed to be coming out with a grip-button release.

Then came the SW MP (something or other--not sure on model). This gun felt awesome, with nice stipling in the handle. My only issue was the thumb safety and I realize I do not like them. Again, I'm a newb, I could probably get used to one, but for a range gun it seems particularly pointless.

Lastly CZ P10C, which I liked a lot and had no complaints about.

Summary
Glock: Like them fine, but actually dislike the rear site being squared off with a circular front (none of the other guns had this)
VP9: felt great, disliked mag release
SW MP: Very nice, don't like thumb safety
CZ P10C: no complaints at all

I see above that there is a version of the SW MP 2.0 without a thumb safety, and the damn things are cheap. This could be a contender, or the CZ P10C.
However, all of these guns I suspect will be less accurate than the Glock 34 (unless I put optics on) due to the smaller site radius.

I'm not surprised to have found that all of them overall got the job done. I also handled, but did not fire, the P75 CZ, which is all metal and very heavy.

Harder to buy a bad one today than a good one. Find the one that fits your hand well and comes up to your eye easily. Of my recent purchases, the VP9SK is by far the sweetest of the bunch.

Dont forget for the glocks the aftermarket support is endless. So if you dont like the sights or the trigger you can replace them for something of your choosing.

The M&P almost has as good of aftermarket support as the glocks. So pretty much everything goes but the wait times and prices might be more than the glocks. I do think they make a full size one without a safety.

Sorry I dont know much about the other ones.

Just a few things. 1 all good observations

2) Gen 4 glock trigger, simple fixes for that, the gen 4 trigger bar has this stupid weird dimple on it that really messes up the trigger, simplest fix is get a gen 3 trigger bar (easy install and only a few bucks) or for a few bucks more and even easier, ($60) Overwatch Precision and now even Agency arms make a polymer drop in triggers that wont break the bank.

3) glock sights, dont worry you are not the only one that hate them, they are just a place holder until you find real sights to put on the gun. They are trash.

4) you are correct about the HK and button mag release being released, (one thing to consider is magazine costs, this pertains to HK and CZ and then also glock and Smith and Wesson, HK being the most expensive, then CZ followed by Glock and Smith, with glock being able to be picked up anywhere pretty much)

5) with the thumb safety on the Smith and Wesson, all the models come in both options No thumb safety or yes thumb safety, little trick, they are the same grip molding and removing the thumb safety is pretty easy. The benefits are that the safety models can usually be had at a less expensive price because they dont sell as many (either way look for the 2.0 versions and they do make a G34 lenght equivalent I believe)

6) CZ is great, and soon the full size (G17ish) will be released

IMHO having at least one glock like a 19 or 17 for example is like having a reliable 12ga or 223, there should be one in every home.

Nothing too special too exciting perhaps, they simply work. For that reason they are the most popular pistol on the planet.

I have other generation but there is something I like about the Gen3 and earlier. So popular all over.

You want the VP9-B. Same gun just button mag release. Although I've seen those M&P's for like $369 but you'll likely have to ditch the mags for that price. The P10 can be had now for $385 with 10 round mags.

That is why I got two! lol

They are so reliable I will probably never use the 2nd one. Still new in the box.

I like the RTF police but it is too agressive for target shooting. Plus the 19 gen 3 has some nice woodies in terms of aftermarket
because it is so popular all over the world. The 8" barrels are also quite well priced for target. Amazing the speed gain.

yes. I keep everything original. One is unsused. The only thing I did in the other one I use is to put the Wilson SS recoil spring and buffer.
Is more a preference for target than it is a need for reliability or anything.

Honestly my main reason for liking the gen 3 so much other than easier to tune the recoil springs (can be done with aftermarket inserts) is the fact that all aftermarket frames are Gen3 only, not gen 4 (they is like 1 or maybe 2 small company gen 4 I believe but they are prototypes still and wont last I'm guessing) not that that is a big deal but makes getting 80% lowers for random builds more economical

I am kind of surprised that the Walther PPQ has not been mentioned more. The Q4 and Q5 come optic ready and the trigger is considered on of the best, straight out of the box.
