Which Glock to buy

I've submitted my 2 year application to join GSSF. Eagerly awaiting my Glock coupon.

Now to decide on a Glock model. Here are some requirements. At least what I think are the requirements. I'm a noob.

Full size => 4.49 inch
Marksman barrel
Gen 5 (I think)
MOS version that works with Trijicon Type 2.

That's all I can think of for now.

If you plan on shooting gssf, the g17 can shoot more divisions than the 34. I use a g17 gen 5 non mos

Why must it be full size? Are you licensed to carry?
In NYS I would pick the G48 if there were ever a chance you might want to carry it. There is no difference in handling or performance between the full size Glocks and the "compact" Glocks.
If you wanted it specifically and only for competition then I would opt for the G34. Whether to get a Gen 4 or Gen 5 depends entirely on how you feel about the finger grooves. The "marksmen" barrel is totally irrelevant so don't factor that in at all. If going for the Gen 5 be aware that Glock has released a version with forward slide serrations that more importantly does not have the magazine cutout in the front strap.

I'll take the 20 over the 40. The 20 actually seems like a useful pistol whereas the 40 just seems like an exercise in overcompensation.

P.S. @Kirk_STNY, if you do really prefer a 17 consider getting the non MOS model. While getting the slide custom milled for the specific model of red dot you choose is more expensive and time consuming,IMO, it the superior mounting method.
By dovetailing the RDS directly into the slide it will sit lower making cowitnessing with the sights easier and the dovetailed cut will support the weight of the sight as the slide cycles to and fro instead of the mounting screws. The Gen 5 G34s only come in the MOS variant.

I have had a G20 for a few years and love it.
My buddy has a G40 and I love it more.
It seems to recover quicker for follow up shots and is better weighted IMO.
Its probably just me, I love heavy handguns.
Oh and, the G40 is more accurate for me.

I have the g40 and love it. It’s going to be a hunting pistol. I have a g20 coming with my gssf coupon......been waiting since August for some reason. Wife ordered a g45 to use at gssf.

I will be completing in GSSF events. The G17 comes in MOS version. And I like the idea of having more events from which to chose.

Eventually I want the Trijicon Type 2. Hoping it will fit well. That's something to be determined before I get one.

I have the carry license. Not sure if I will. I can get a carry gun if I decide to carry. Can never have too many guns.

I've ruled out the 34 because of GSSF events.
I have to look up all these numbers being thrown out in all the answers.

Every one should own a G17, its a no brainer. Especially if your going to use it in Glock matches. I use my G17's to train folks. you can get a 22 top end for it and it allows people to learn how to shoot with out the bad habits we all learn from recoil , Hopefully this time next year you'll be asking what gun should you order with your award certificate .. Good Luck with your decision . Now you'll have to start collecting magazines. Not to worry if you don't get them I always have Extra magazine to loan to any forum member at the Glock matches . Just let me know before the match so I bring them

Another good option about the G17 is if you do ever want a G34 you can always just buy a G34 (or after market) upper and toss it on you G17 frame (as they are the same thing)

This can also be done if you buy a G34, you can throw a G17 slide/barrel on the frame and be good to go

Best idea, get either a G22 (G17 size) or G35 (G34 size) .40sw

Then you can get the 9mm and or .357sig (.357 harder to find especially G35 size) barrels and bam now you have 2-3 guns and even do the above mentioned 17/22 to 34/35 slides or other way around if that makes sense

The closest to me are in PA. The next closest is Avon. Rochester and Buffalo are OK too. I'll try Avon first to stay in NY

As far as magazines go, I believe that you must use factory ones.
Magpuls work fine but are not approved for competition.
