Since you are asking for opinion, I would say the 2nd one with just a plain dot. That circle with a dot in the middle on the Vortex is too busy. I recently shot one of those others this guy had with a Holosun with the exact same reticle and that circle got in the way when shooting small steel targets. I felt like it made me slower since the circle obscured the target.

Really? I would have figured the 1 MOA dot of the UH-1 would be an aid to precision than the 2 MOA dot of the Romeo 8T.

Romeo gives you option of choosing miltiple reticles. Also has "shake awake" (I believe Holosun makes it for SIG). These optics are what I would consider defensive sights. A 2 MOA dot would be plenty accurate enough for that purpose. If you are building a precision bench gun then neither would be the right choice.

I like the 1moa dot and 65moa circle reticle it helps me find the dot faster and center it on the target. I have several sights with this reticle mounted on pistols and rifles. For me the simple dot is just not as fast.

2 MOA on a working/battle style rifle like the Ace is fine. Other than reticle design seems a toss up. Buy both to see which one you prefer and return the other? You’ll probably know as soon as you look through them.

Everything I've read and watched, the only negative of the vortex is battery life (but its not the vortex but that is a typical of holographic sights)

This is where I'm at: The Galil Ace is actually a quite accurate rifle and in 308 has some legs under it. However it is also a relatively heavy rilfe, as most 308 semi autos are, yet it balances well and handles well. I don't want to ruin its handling by putting a scope on it, even the ACOG TA-11 unbalanced it some, so I was thinking it would be best to keep a red dot or holo sight on it to keep it lively. That being said the 1 MOA dot of holographic sights has me thinking I could wring a bit more precision out of the setup. I have heard that the 8T However has an especially crisp and defined dot so that could achieve my ends also.

Well the vortex will be lighter.. the difference between 1 moa and 2 moa will probably be hard to notice

They are both of similar mass.

*edit* actually the 8T is 3oz heavier, 13.7oz total. That is not far off from a scope, particularly ACOGs.

It probably would if the target is out far enough where the target is smaller than the circle. But when the target itself is close to about the same size as circle, the circle obscures it. Shit man, I’m having trouble explaining.

I was shooting at steel targets. They were small circles that were close to one another on a stand. Like this but with the targets closer together.

At the distance that I was at, the circle got in the way. The circle was just a little bit bigger than the targets and since the targets were close together, I couldn’t differentiate what was what because the circle overlapped.

So if the drill was to shoot every other one (shoot one skip one) from left to right, it was difficult because the circle overlapped on the targets and got in the way. Had I just had a dot, the picture would have been clearer.

No, I see what you are saying. It would be nice of the UH-1 had selectable reticles. I wonder if that is possible on holographic sights?

The holosun has that feature. You can change reticles and is much cheaper. Even has solar which is a plus but a non issue since the batteries last long. I can see that scenario coming into play in real life when differentiating live targets that are armed or not armed moving around close together.

If you have any type of astigmatism, you may do better with the circle dot. I have a hard time seeing a red dot. I don’t see a circle. The EOTech type reticle are easier for me to get fast and accurate shots at distance. For CQB it doesn’t really matter either way.
