Given the shit show of the kavanaugh hearings and the way Barr was treated (not being allowed to answer during hours of grilling) I think this is a legitimate approach. The constitution says the judge must be approved by the advice and consent of the senate. It doesn't state anything about hearings, which were most likely introduced sometime in the 20th century. The Dems and the press will throw a fit no matter what. Why give them the chance to slander yet another candidate and turn it into another circus? The Dems have only themselves to blame for this.
