Why I Don't Like "Hyper" Ammo ... Paul Harrell

When I can get Federal HSTs or Speer Gold Dots for $.45 a round online I can't fathom why I shouldn't buy them. When purchased thusly the "hyper" ammo also comes in 50 round boxes.

Is it worth watching past 5 minutes? "Mah Beretta was zeroed with cheap Winchester ammo, watch how this more expensive defensive ammo shoots differrently"..

His main point was that no one shoots thier expensive ammo to where they know where it hits. Its accuracy is different from "normal" sd ammo. Also no one tests the reliability of this expensive ammo. Yeah he can put you to sleep sometimes.
You and me both. One of those things that has always been beat into my head was: shoot at least two boxes of what you intend to carry through the gun, that way you know where it is going to hit and how it will function in your gun. Don't care what it is just shoot it through your gun.

Yes, it is true about POA/POI shifts when going from 'target' to 'defensive' ammo. I've almost completely eliminated 115gr 9mm rounds from my stockpile; while I don't notice a huge difference between 115gr and 124, I wanted to standardize on the 124 for target rounds; defensive rounds I have some 124gr Hornady Critical Defense and 147gr Winchester Ranger series. I shoot several magazines worth to ensure reliability; expensive, but worth it if I ever need to use.
I've noticed that in close range (10 yards or less), I don't see to much of a shift on impact from 124gr to 147gr in most of my guns. Would I be confident in a 'hostage style' precision shot at longer range? Depends.. Who is the hostage?
Most people do realize that many companies have ammo similar to their defensive loads right?

I stock pile alot of white box Winchester, American Eagle, and Remington green box for plinking and SHTF.
I buy Federal HST in the 20 round box for carrying.
I go through about 5 boxes of the HST a month, give or take.
I usually shoot from 7-10 yards.
I dont see alot of difference.
Except, I tend to get more "flyers" with the lower cost ammo. But, that just might seem that way because I shoot alot more of it.

Check out online. You can usually get the 50 round boxes for the same price as the 20s

I know but im a dumbass.
I go to the LGS all the time and hate leaving empty handed. I get a small discount at the LGS so I pay about $17 for a box of 20 HST.
I have bought online a few times but usually cases of rifle ammo.
