Why is Re-certification Even Needed?
It isn't.
Why is Re-certification Even Needed?
Yeah, how do the other states even survive without it.
I wear a pretty tight tinfoil hat but some of you guys are really out there. The 3rd post explains why they want recertification. To clean up the system. Any logical person can come up with that conclusion. I'm not saying I agree with it but it's the most logical reason.
As far as "Are they coming for your guns?" goes.... Yes. They are. But not in the paranoid delusion some of you guys are envisioning. Half a million cops (only in the state of NY) are not going to go by a master list and go door to door with flashbangs and attack dogs on the whim of the governor while the rest of the country watches and goes about it's business.
What they will do however is wait for you to fuck up in their eyes. Whether it be beating your wife, taking drugs (both illegal and prescription), or what have you.
NY is redundant on everything but freedom. Its NY. It wouldnt be NY if they didnt be redundant on everything.
I don't know if you are being sarcastic, funny, or serious.Your really are naive.

"Free" for the moment, there's always free cheese in the trap. You mean renewed online every five years for free? That would be glorious.
They aren't but that is their reasoning.1. Revoke permits of people who have moved out of state without notifying county.
If a person moves out of state, their permit is automatically no good. So if they try to use it in NY, they will be caught. If they are stopped by a LEO and show their driver's license/ID it will show they do not live in NY and hence their permit is not valid.
2. Get a correct address for people that have moved within a county and not updated their address.
How does it do that? Re-certification is every 5 years.
3. Run the name of people who haven't purchased a gun in 30+ against all available databases that would disqualify you from firearm ownership.
So if they run a BC and you fail, they will note in NICS that you can't buy a gun. OK, but who verifies the BC was correct before they update NICS?
IMHO, I am not sure any of the above issues are so important than we need this process.
I don't know if you are being sarcastic, funny, or serious.
If not sarcastic or funny, please provide me with a scenario where the governor of NY will commit mass confiscations door to door utilizing thousands of cops to get to millions of gun owners in this state while the rest of the country watches.
No sir. No naivity here. I'm aware that years ago you could have bought a gun at your local hardware store or had a car on the road that was pure muscle.I'm not going to do that, it's a facetious scenario with no real world beginning or end. I have been around awhile and have seen the incremental loss of our constitutionally assured rights taken bit by bit. It's not all about guns, but the second can sometimes be used as a story pole. Even so, somethings cannot be measured, like rights, if you never had them you don't miss them. This is not the same country I grew up in, not even close. Willis you are a good man, I think you are naive, like many here. I don't mean that as an insult or any thing that might be mistaken as demeaning, its just that you cannot know what you never had, and I cannot explain properly just what a loss of freedom has occurred in the last fifty, sixty years, and just how close we have been to loosing our republic in the last eight years, we are no where near out of the woods yet. I can only apologize for my lacking the ability to articulate in such a manner as you could clearly see what I see, and have seen.

Could it be that and what was detailed in post 3?Some of you really want to believe in the good intentions and worthwhile motives of NYS on recertification ?? even with all the other outrageous nonsense in the safe act ?? I'm not buying it.
Reasons for recertification:
1. create a state police (ie Cuomo's) database of all permit holders that includes all your handgun information and is linked to your driver license.
2. revoke the permit of anyone who forgets to recertify or is unaware of the requirement.
3. give the journal news access to another source of pistol permit holder information.
You sir will be hearing from my attorney.NY hates firearms and firearms owners. Can you imagine if driver's licenses and car registration was handled in an equivalent manner? Politicians bring little value to the state while the people who bust their asses and get their hands dirty bringing value to the state get their balls busted.

They absolutely want to take guns from everyone who shouldn't have them, the problem is their definition of "people who shouldn't have them". Their idea of "people who shouldn't have them" includes everyone not employed by the government. What have they been waiting for then?
Maybe they want to take them away from people who shouldn't be allowed to possess them which is exactly what law abiding firearm owners want, correct? Enforce the laws we have, don't make new ones.
If it cost hundreds of dollars to get a license that could easily denied for any arbitrary reason, If you needed to get 4 references to vouch for you and had to provide a reason why you need a car, and if the license was suspended they confiscated all the cars you own ?You mean renewed online every five years for free? That would be glorious.
Correct. I'll add they are checking you against medical database and tying your permit to your driver license. Other than that I think they are hoping people will not recertify or you'll make a mistake and give up. It's all a game. I just can't believe it's free.1. A better argument might be why does the state need a list of your firearms when it could be maintained on a county level.
