Why should I buy a $2000+ 1911?

I own a few Colt's, Springers, and Smith's in the $7-1000 range. They are fine shooting guns, ultra reliable especially the E Series Smiths, look good, etc. The accuracy out of them exceeds my ability. So what does 2-5000 get me for some of the "higher" end guns?

I can't wait for more people to start making 2011's. I want one so bad but I doubt I will ever own one until the price point comes down considerably. To the OP I went with a Springfield fully loaded operator and it's really damn nice. Is there better? Of course! But I don't think I would use, need or even appreciate any higher end models my skill level is not there.

Nothing unless you are into competition shooting or bench shooting where you want 1/2 MOA.

If it's for carry, a gun with tight tolerances would be a tack driver but will also have the ability to fail much more when debris is introduced into the action. There is no need for MOA this and that for self-defense distances from point blank ranges up to about 25 yards or so.

A reliable gun that functions full of dirt and grime that's accurate enough is much better for carry and defense than a tight toleranced gun that has to remain clean for flawless function.

this is a great option. most of what "you" REALLY need without breaking the bank. there are a few upgrades that will be warranted after "you" become proficient, that will make it even better, but that can wait till your skills overrun what comes stock.

there really is a super big difference in the $1200 SA and a full custom Brazo (or other custom builder) build. a friend just got a custom 1911 the other day....SUPER sweet.....SUPER expensive ($5K). a lot of the things that make custom guns SUPER expensive include custom paint, custom grips , and things like slide lightening and spiral fluted barrels etc etc. but in the end of the day, lightened tuned slides with match lightened barrels will put you on target better, faster, and with greater repeat-ability.

trust me when i say that a full custom gun is easier to shoot, by any person, that an out of the box $500 gun. everyone will shoot the custom gun better.....

it all come down to how good "YOU" are....this dictates how good your firearm needs to be.....at some point the firearm will be the limiting factor, and you will need a bigger mag well, a better trigger, a better holster, a lightened slide to reduce recoil, better sights, custom grips, etc etc.

trust me when i say, all people will be able to shoot a custom gun better than they can shoot a $500 out of the box gun....everyone.

if you have the coin, and you like nice stuff, by all means get a custom made 1911/2011. it will be awesome. also look into used models. some guys have 2,3 or 4 of these, some that see very little use.
