Can someone explain to me what the big deal is (besides the "ohh it looks badass machine gun like) with the popularity of the micro carbine, 3-4 inch barrel sub guns that hold 20-30 rounds. It a pistol. It's not really easily concealed, other smaller handguns have high caps approaching 20+ rounds (XDM 19, Beretta 18, Glock 33 rounds). I'm reading reviews about what great guns they are for home defense, great backpack guns, blah blah blah. But other than the cool factor, why? I guess I'm just not getting it.

And PDWs have been around for decades. Many of these are spawned from other agency requirements trying to get a contract (many of which we will never hear about) and then are also sold on the civilian market because why not the tooling it's all the same from their larger "carbine" counter parts just different barrel and handguards and gas setting.

Not to mention take a guess which one is going to be easier to shoot when it comes down to it. So home defense is a big seller, or even some people want a descrete backpack gun.

There are loads of reasons why someone would want something like this, and then there is the simple not all guns need a purpose other than I bought this guys let's go shoot some ammo and have fun

I've been waiting to see what happens with the chassis guns (p320, APX) and if the manufacturers start making different platforms to move them to.

The 320 has been out for oh God something like 5 years now, I'll take things that will never happen for 500 Alex when it comes to manufacturers making different platforms to move them to.

If they make anything that has a stock that would require the chassis to be registered as an SBR and the demand for that is pretty much 0 I'm guessing.. since once it's an sbr trying to take it across state lines is a PITA

They don't make a lot of sense in a restricted state, that being on top of not making quite so much sense sans full auto functionality.
That said what they offer is 3 points of contact while aiming and full capacity magazines in a package that is compact and handy. Also mounting optics is easier than on a pistol.
Mostly though it's a second kind of cool thing.

I will say that since I have decided to employ a 5.56 "pistol" for my rather unique and stringent needs I will be forgoing any such 9mm SMG wanna be guns like mentioned above.
Instead I will get a Ruger PC carbine instead since range time frolics is all I need it for and its size and weight will not hinder that.

More accurate . . . ?? 3-4 inch barrel? I don't know . . . Same length barrels
Optics . . . Check. But MOS, RMR, Red dot equipped Glock 17, Sig 320, canik, etc wouldn't that be almost the same?

I'm thinking that the handguns would be faster, easier, certainly more "back packable", able to be stuffed with full cap mags.
Like Pod says without the giggle switch, meh. Yup the Ruger PCC9 in a carbine length, yeah! Got one! And at one time I owned a 5.56 Carbon 15 pistol for the added power (energy) but unGodly loud. And many moons ago I spent some time behind an MP5 for a short time . . .
I think for the price the Ruger AR pistol would just be a better idea than an oversized 9mm pistol at twice the price. In the mean time I could slap on a Strike Industries Red dot mount and my Burris Fastfire III on my Glock 19 and stuff it with 33 rounders.
When I get back to Florida. Bite me cuomo.

I think you are missing the point of 3 points of contact vs 1 point of contact and the role it plays on accuracy and control of a firearm and to hung up on barrel length

Shit a CZ Scorpion Micro or Sig Copper head with Brace (or appropriate tax stamp for a stock) will be much much more accurate even with just standard iron sights and easier to control at the same time than even a (pic your flavor of 4"handgun you mentioned above) Red dot mounted handgun

You can make hits on a chest sized target all day long at 100 yards with these micro pistol calibered carbines. With a pistol that doesn’t have a brace or stock you will not make consistent hits unless you are someone like Jerry Mirkulek.

Most people miss with a pistol at 15 yards. Especially more so if the target is moving. This remedies that.

Why do you guys have to be so, so . . . logical? Dammit! I just liked them 'cause of how they look. I didn't think that they ACTUALLY had real purpose. Sorta been thinking about an MPX, or that Ruger AR15 pistol for half price . . .

The MPX is nice, and I hate Sig. But you can buy/build a good AR9 pistol for a good price, it may be slightly larger but not by much

Yea but honestly if you think about it the MPX is just a "proprietary" AR.


If I had the MPX kinda cash to dump and was looking at 4-6" super small sub guns ("pistols" if you will) I would still check out the B&T line

No, it isn't. It's SIG's take on the AR18/180 on a proprietary AR15 lower.

Well it's something hahah I never gave it much look cause well I had no real interest (or ability) all I ever heard was takes standard AR triggers and mags, and well it looked like an AR

I don’t really like them either. Pcc is good for me. The Ruger pcc is a great backpack/truck/truck gun. If I put it on my shoulder I want a longer barrel. Just my preference.
