So expensive but I really admire the work the maker of this knife puts into these. Gough Resolute MK III, not getting one anytime soon last I checked these are running close to $500 shipped to the US (maker is in Canada).
A lot more feasible but still on the pricey side of things for me (Benchmade 940) at close to $200. I just like the profile and the steel on this knife.

That Gough is one sexy blade! Simple and elegant. I highly recommend the 940, it's pretty much the ultimate gentleman's EDC. You can find them for around $170, amazon for example. I want to track down the new G10 version, I think it's also rocking M390 steel too! Mmnnnn.

There are a few makers that offer good replicas, but I gather one has to be carefull of ones made of cheap Chinese pot metal.

Knives are relative, there are certain price entry points for certain expectations. Just like guns... Be careful, because if you hold a $1,000 knife in your hand, you may start spending a lot of money. Case in point, my Jim Burke, is worth more than my Sig Legion, lmao, and I carry it almost always! Of course for work - opening letters and boxes 
Yeah, I had a Legion too. Traded it in for a Shield and a PPQ. The lesson I learned? Cover the basics before the luxuries.

My wife insists that there must be a 'ten step program' somewhere's that can help stop the knife addiction, --- as for myself - I seriously hope not, -- but she does sometime bring up the idea of an 'intervention' -- whatever the hell that means.

Okay, if I read your usage of those little faces, you must believe their are plenty of 'pocket' knives with high quality cutlery steel blades on the market. Enlighten me.

Define what you consider "high quality cutlery steel" there are numerous models using top exotic steels like m390 or m4 out there. I like S30v just fine at my level of usage my blades can go a month or more before they need sharpening.

Some guys like stainless, -- tons of types, 440A - lower end, 440B, better, 440C best of the 3. Tons more. Some different stainless is harder to sharpen, and lots of guys like carbon steel for ease of sharpening, but you have to take care of it keep it cleaned & oiled when not using. Knife should not be kept & stored in their leather sheaths, these can promote rust & corrosion. A lot of knife guys will tell you that you can get a sharper edge on a carbon steel blade than you can on a stainless blade, -- a well-made carbon steel blade can take some prying or leverage, -- a stainless blade cannot. Never pry with a stainless blade, and never stab a stainless blade into a log or tree, in the woods, to hold it, -- there are lots of sharp little knife points out there in the woods. Lots of different knife boards to glean info from, just saying, go visit 'All About Pocket Knives' or 'Jersey Devils'. -- Buck 110 or 112 folder can serve well for an EDC blade.

That is an extensive collection. Do I see some Great Eastern Cutlery in there?
I would like to find a couple of the survival knives like I was issued in The Army. I am sure if I looked hard enough I could find them but, I have been too lazy to do so.

Anything with G10 or S30v from the big manufacturers is gonna hold an edge well. At least in my experience.
Actually I've been happy with with both Aus-8 (sog flash) and 154cm when it comes to holding an edge as well even though it's apparently not as good as the 2 mentioned above.
No knife edge is going to hold forever, especially if you are beating the hell out of it regularly.
Anybody got a suggestion for a larger spyderco (more than 3.5") between $100- $200? The syperdco equivalent of the benchmade 710 basically.

Thank you Loren. I have used 01, but it is very finicky without a controlled furnace. I don't beat the hell out of my pocket knife, but I do use it daily. It just seems that todays tools that require a good edge are fairly easy to sharpen but don't hold an edge worth a darn. In the past, you had to know how to sharpen an edge, but it lasted, quite the opposite. Maybe it has to do with the instant gratification people expect today.

Well yeah that's the caviot with higher end steels like S30V, VG10 (sorry misspoke G10 is handle material haha). While it's a harder steel and holds an edge better, I find it takes a little longer to sharpen because of that fact.

If you like carbon steels and didn't like 01, maybe give A2 or D2 steel a try? I hear they are harder, however again from what I have seen A2 takes a maker that knows what they are doing because IIRC it's not like 01 or 1095 in that you quench in oil after hardening. That Gough Resolute MK III that I posted is A2 steel coated in DLC (diamond like carbon).
The appeal of that knife to me is both how it's made and seeing how much testing and beating Aaron Gough goes through in the design process. I just can't swing $500 for a knife right now (with a waiting list months long).
