There are also people out there that carry bombs in their backpacks. Are we not to go out in public because of that?
It may not be as bad as it appears.
First, if he's open carrying he's likely in a low-crime area. I say this because open carry regions tend to be lower-crime areas (with, of course, municipal exceptions.)
Second, he's probably not the only one armed within ten feet. And the criminals- if they are there- likely know this.

I don't get it. It at least has a gun snap. What exactly should he be using? Like a level 3 retention holster? Which holster exactly SHOULD he be using for all those saying it's insufficient?

Also, not for nothing, but I think wallet chains are silly.
They saved my friends wallet on a rollercoaster once. That wallet flew straight out on a hill, but luckily it had a chain.
What if it had gotten caught in the rails?! It would have yanked him straight to his doom!!! Dear God!

But yea to the he's doing nothing wrong crowd. Please. Anyone can walk up behind him and take it possibly putting his kid's life and those around him in jeopardy. If that isn't a concern, then why carry? Nothing is going to happen! Right!

I think a little wallet chain is too flimsy to pull someone to their death. I mean you're under the cart bar. Either the wallet would rip away, the part of the pants it's attached to or the chain itself would give. If it did happen to overcome all four of those things it would be one hell of a promotion for a good product.
Anyway, it seems that maybe this guys best option might just be to not carry at all. If the holster is or isn't good or he is open carrying or concealed carry the gun can be taken away. I still haven't heard a solution to what he should do.

That's because you choose to play ignorant for your own purposes so I cannot help you there.
Fact. If you have a high level retention holster, it greatly reduces the ability to just have the gun taken from you from behind.
Fact. If aware of your surroundings, it greatly reduces the ability to have the gun taken from you from behind.
Fact. If carrying concealed properly, it greatly reduces the ability to have the gun taken from you from behind if the thief has no clue you are carrying.
Fact. someone grabbing your wallet from your back pocket and running away doesn't give them the ability to use the wallet to hurt you or anyone else directly like it does if he grabs your gun.
These are facts that cannot be disputed logically. Many can say that the chances of that happening are low. That is correct. Also correct is the low chance that you will need it to defend yourself or the low chance that your 4 year old kid can take it from the top of your dresser and shoot himself at home but you secure it anyway.
Many of us don't play the chances game and secure it at home from children and when we go out we carry anyway even though there is a low chance of needing it. So why is open carrying poorly a chance worth taking?
If you are going to do it, do it right. This isn't amateur hour.
I suspect many of you haven't seen first hand with your own eyes what a criminal is capable of. If you did on a regular basis, you'd think differently and have more of a paranoid, survival mindset. If you have an are still nonchalant about it, you need help.
As far as examples, just type in "open carrier gun stolen" in Google and you will see pages of incidents.
