It's their business and they can do what they want... Definitely and absolutely! I agree with this and have no problem with it at all. I take my $ where it's appreciated! Period!

But OP, What's repulsive to you? That they cater to LE? Ok, so... It's their choice! You make yours! That means whether or not to support their business model by providing any of your hard earned $ to them.

But too much today, we see people who feel it is their madate or right to force others to do what "they" perceive is right! That their judgement should persuade others to follow suit, and accept their, well... Unacceptance!

And that IMO is what's wrong in many places, faces and things...

It really is simple, move on! Otherwise you're just like that gay couple forcing the baker to make a wedding cake they don't want to, that is in conflict with their religious or other beliefs, whatever they be!

Interesting thread, and I can only speak to Wolcott as a pre pandemic consumer. I was a frequent supporter of the range/store, often purchasing supplies of anything firearm related. In addition, Ken would host a practical shoot every other Fri nite that was well attended and appreciated. Sorry to hear you had a negative experience.

I've called them multiple times this year to see if they would be opening their range. Even with the new less strict rules they aren't. The guy actually told me word for word that the new rules don't Matter to customers using the range because the employees aren't vaccinated.


Wtf. To say I'm annoyed at that place is an understatement. I'm never going there again.

My new favorite "local" gun store is sugarbush out near varysburg. Been there a few times and the guys are super helpful and friendly. Just check their hours there aren't open every day

If they want to only service training classes and law enforcement then so be it. Don’t lie to me and the generic covid response as a cover for their intentions. The firing pin has had their store and range open almost this entire time. Comparing these two businesses the firing pin appears to be doing quite well financially while wolcott appears not so much. 90% of the time from what I have seen wolcotts range has sat unused. I would have to wonder about the profitability of a business asset that generates no revenue 90% of the time. On average I purchase and sell 10-20 firearms a year and purchase 10’s of thousands of rounds of ammo a year. If they don’t want my business then so be it. Be straightforward about ones intention. Don’t lie to me and say the range is closed and nobody has been able to use it due to covid. Be honest and say it is open only for training and law enforcement.

Firing pin is an hour+

One of the reasons I'm going. If I'm spending money I will go out of my way to spend it on people like him

Are they open every day of the week? What is their schedule like? What are dues? What size pistol range? What size rifle?


I have weird days off so clubs that mainly focus on weekends aren't very appealing to me.

I was just recently in a new local store Queen City tactical. I was talking to a worker there and I think they are planning on opening a 100 yard indoor range at some point in the future. This might be a nice alternative for a company that actually wants to take our money and supports the 2a.

I saw that. No pistols on the 50 yard range, no archery range, no gun rentals of rifles or shotguns and they will inspect all ammo you bring in to shoot with. I will continue to drive a hour each way to do business with and use the range of the firing pin as they have a much better attitude towards their clients

Wow. Not sure how I missed this thread until now.

I can certainly understand the frustrations. I’ve had some good and not so great experiences. Most of the staff are pretty nice as well as the owners. I was a bit concerned though about the signs on the doors last time I was in there saying masks were still required even after the state lifted the mandate. I’ve also had to track them down after getting a pistol transferred there and not hearing anything from them for over a week.

As for the ranges, I’ve shot in there for work pretty recently, and at the time they were upgrading them and what not. I know initially after the shutdown, they had to close with the exception to the executive order being that they may stay open to serve LE and related agencies. I’m sure this is where their explanation comes from.

As far as I am aware the ranges are open to members only for now. Perhaps it has to do with staffing or some other thing we are not aware of. Maybe limited lanes available due to the renovations. I think maybe OP is reading a bit too far into them saying the ranges are closed. Not to defend Wolcott because I really don’t care either way, but telling a member of the public they are closed isn’t really misleading how I see it. They are closed with an exception. For all intensive purposes they are indeed closed. Maybe I’m missing something. Idk. They could be better but I’m not about to get bent out of shape about it too much.

All I can say about the ammo is they’ve had a very strict limit of 1 box per day but the nice thing they did was set aside ammo for all the guns they have, so if you buy a gun from them you will at least have ammo available for it.

I’m looking to buy a sig 365 and I may travel here tomorrow to see what they have. My time is limited and driving 1.25-1.5 hours a few times to the firing line isn’t very feasible for me.
Sad to see they have gone downhill so quickly as I have heard lots of good things about them and there are not many gun stores left in Buffalo area. Maybe I’ll just walk away frustrated tomorrow who knows. Their hours suck. Closed at 5pm most days so yes it seems like they only want to cater to LEO’s at this point. Most people leave work at 5pm and there’s only so many slots on the Saturday they are open and closed sundays.

I didn’t buy a gun today. They didn’t have the 365XL and the gun I wanted to consign had aftermarket grips so they said they wouldn’t take it. I said really they are plastic and these are nice figured walnut. He told me people want original grips. I asked what I could get for it with grips and I was lower than I’m willing to accept anyway. The guns going for $450-$500 on gun broker and I have 5 mags , 3 sets of grips, and a holster. They told me they thought they could get $375-$425 then I get the remainder after they take 15%. I said I’ll keep it for that and I will.
They were descent about everything but I’m fairly sure one day next week if the firing pin has the 365 and 365xl in stock for comparison I may drive there. I may just wait until the prices drop too since they used to be $499-$550 and are now going for $680. I have other guns and I’m in no hurry I just have plenty of cash with nothing to spend it on right now.

I got my P365 for $499 mid pandemic and can get them even cheaper now with creds from time to time.

From where you are machias or sugarbush are about same distance. Give them a call I've had great experiences there.

I've also had a great experience the 1 time I've been to firing pin.


So you really can't go wrong with any of those 3 choices

All I know is I work hard for my money. And if I want to spend it as a customer I want to spend it somewhere I think that the company values my business.



I've had great experiences at firing pin, sugarbush and machias.

I've never yet bought anything from queen city tactical but the one time I stopped in to poke around they were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back.

I'm done with Wolcott. They lost my business.
