A Fort Worth police officer checking out a residence with an open door opened fire on a 28-year-old woman inside her home.
A Fort Worth police officer checking out a residence with an open door opened fire on a woman inside her home, killing her, authorities said.

The shooting early Saturday occurred less than two weeks after a police officer in nearby Dallas was found guilty of murder for fatally shooting a man in his home in 2018. In both cases the officers are white and the victims were African American.

In the Fort Worth shooting at 2:25 a.m. Saturday, authorities have the officer's body-camera footage.

According to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, the imagery shows the perspective of the officer outside a home, peering inside a window using a flashlight, spotting someone inside standing near a window and telling her, "Put your hands up — show me your hands," before opening fire.

Wow, can anyone say, fucked?

So, he gets a call to go to the home to do a health and welfare/security check. Concerned neighbor called, thought something may be wrong. That is what the Police are for.

Copper snoops and pokes around a bit, come to a window; sees movement, calls out and less than a second later kills the homeowner. Huh, shot the innocent who he was checking on...

Cases like this really make people wonder if they truly can trust the police, this guy obviously was scared and/or poorly trained and should not have had a badge

Even if she did have a gun in her hand, she was completely justified in skiing so. Not once did he indicate that he was a police officer. Just awful.

The country needs to see this too.

People need to see police officers held accountable when they commit criminal acts.

I realize that the media manufacturer crime where none occurred all the time for police, but for the same reason people need to see reports of legal defensive gun use they need to see reports of criminal officers being held accountable.

This is why I'm very anti-thin blue line. It's a stupid, divisive, slogan.

Although, to be fair, this wasn't an issue in this particular case with cops being overly armed or anything, or overly militarized. Honestly, the guy just made a really bad call, and he'll pay for it. I don't see a wider issue here that needs to be addressed, so long as he goes to jail for a bad call.

so the call was direct to the officer ?? .. from TYM vid it was a call from a neighbor .. .. neighbor had the cop cell on speed dial .. ??

The neighbor called the police non emergency line and requested an officer investigate an open door at the victim's house.

This officer was dispatched, and the result is one life ended and another ruined.

The root cause is that that officer should never have been in that position. He was obviously not adequately trained or screened.

If you tell the janitor to do brain surgery and he screws it up, it's your fault for asking as much as his for scrambling the guys brain.

I think this incident goes far beyond one individual's "bad call".
This is certainly not an isolated situation.

I don't know all the background for this. It looks to me like the guy wasn't abusing power or anything near that, he was just incompetent and that young lady paid with her life. What I especially don't like is what appears to be a lynch mob justice forming. Maybe they should look at who said, yeah, you can be a cop.

We live in a country where the civilian population is armed to the teeth which in many cases law inforcement is outgunned. Cops fear for their lives when answering a call to do a chk on a private residence 2am in the morning. I in no way condone how this officer went about what led to this women's death but we won't know the true situation for some time. The murder charge I think is overkill

The neighbor probably thought there was a legitimate risk that it was a burglar.

Can't blame him for not wanting to get involved in that, in theory that's what we pay cops for.

If any decent officer had responded it would have been the right call.

Murder may be overkill, I'm not sure. But anytime you point a gun at someone and intentionally pull the trigger I think it needs to be the assumption.

Americans being armed to the teeth is nothing new. If anything the balance of firepower has shifted drastically in favor of the police in the last few decades.

The civilian population isn't much more heavily armed than they were 30 years ago. The cops are light years more so.

Before 1960 SWAT teams didn't exist outside of a few specific ad hoc teams put together for one time deployments. Cops by and large carried revolvers. In 1930 you could order full auto heavy machineguns COD, no background check no nothing. In fact anyone could pick up an AR15 with no background check as late as the 60s.

The problems we face are cultural, and have nothing to do with civilian ownership or availability of guns.

Trying to fix these problems with gun control is like trying to fix a broken leg with herbs and crystals.

It may sound good to hippies, but it's likely to make things worse, not better.

So you think that the civilian population shouldn’t be armed to the teeth so that it is one sided in the government’s favor. What a sheep you are.
