Was accurate when I was there, and is still accurate. That's the reality of college. You have to spit back what the teacher wants to hear. It's a game, and you have to play on their terms to get the reward (the grade, and the diploma.) You can't speak your mind, no matter how much logic you present. You have to lie.
Case and point: I had to take the dumb ass course of "popular culture" to fill out some electives. Biggest mistake, ever. The teacher at the time wanted students to say back, in a nutshell, that media was so pervasive, that it was essentially impossible for parents to protect their children from the "evils" of consumerism pushing products down the throats of the kids.
My argument in the reverse was that what he was trying to argue required an assumption that undermines the very idea of society. It undermines the idea of freedom of choice. To me, it was perfectly reasonable for parents to teach their kids about responsible consumerism, and money management. It was perfectly reasonable to assume, beneath all that naivety, the child could still be advised on how to make a reasonable choice, eventually.
Unless we deny that we have free will -- which, last I checked, courts continue to affirm -- then we have to assume that we can teach our children right from wrong, good from bad, reasonable from unreasonable. Free will is the foundation of society. To think otherwise completely negates the idea of choice, and therefore justice itself.

Are there any schools in Western NY area that are not insane like this? Is RIT this bad? I need to send my eldest to school soon and want to avoid this sort of shenanigan as much as possible. Within commute distance from Rochester would be ideal, as she may stay at home (save money).
