I'm always puzzled by people who look for excuses rather than point the blame at the individual where in belongs. Like,...... it's acceptable if one person/child dies because some asshole used a muzzled loader. Unless of course it's their family member. Then the muzzle loader has to be banned.
I understand how and why we are here as a society with gun violence and accept that my generation (GEN X) is largely responsible. Now, lets have a real discussion and how to rectify it instead of supporting politically expedient narratives that have failed over 20,000 times.

I will gladly give up my semi automatic firearms after both the federal government and NYS law enforcement give up their semi automatic and fully automatic firearms first. Given their track record I would not find it prudent to give up mine first. I have passed every background check imaginable, whereas both the federal government and NYS law enforcement would be unable to pass even an NCIS check. It’s always best to lead by example so I will be waiting for both of them to do so.

Its because they cannot use the urban illegal guns used for murder, for political gain. Those of us, whether living in the suburbs, rural communities, or a gentrified urban area, that legally own guns, are the biggest threat to the establishment, in their minds.
We are not out killing each other, and will not be easily rounded up in a fell swoop via national guard, or law enforcement. Instead we are educated, prepared, with clean records so NOT at the mercy of warrants and probation, we have resources, assets, disposable income, the ability to purchase whatever our freedoms allow, and something to live and die for. All that right there, is what scares those in power to death. We keep them up at night, because in their minds, we could be a threat to their power, institutions, and ability to keep a strangle hold on the masses.
We are the "enemy", as legally prepared firearms owners. Gun toting, ignorant, gang bangers that are reliant on government controlled assistance, and who can easily be rounded up, especially for illegal gun possesion, are NOT their enemy. In fact, they would rather create an "us and them" type situation, in where we are at odds with these urban illegal gun toting masses, via a scripted false narrative, perpertrated by the powers that be. If we are fighting with someone else, and focused on a different enemy, then we arent focused on the real threat, them.
We are their biggest threat to losing power, and the ONLY thing that holds the total tyranny at bay, is our legal right to bare arms. Look at how much control the Australian government had over its unarmed population during covid. Curfews, time limits on "normal" actions, when to get gas, when to buy food, where and how, and when you could do anything was completely dictated by the govt. Look at China and how they literally imprisoned, confined, beat, and watched via drones, innocent people strictly because they might have been sick, or near a sick person.
These REAL govt actions can ONLY happen, and be institutionalized en masse, onto an unarmed civilian population. Look at history for the answer. One of the first moves the Nazi govt mandated as soon as they gained complete control, was banning and confiscating ALL civilian firearms. I wonder how many humans would have been rounded up, and herded by the millions, if they still had their firearms to PROTECT them.
