Yonkers: Coyne Park Rifle & Pistol Range set to close 12.31.2017

A contact from the range advised me earlier this morning the range will be closing for good Dec 31st 2017 and that there are plans to eviscerate /excavate the entire guts of the building and pave it over.

if you live in the area, and use this range, please let them hear your voice. We cannot afford to lose ANY shooting locations - especially in the downstate area. If this closes the city and probably the county will never, as in ever and forever, ever open another public shooting facility.

That's a shame. The range is not pretty and expensive for non-residents, but it is an irreplaceable resource. Its loss will be felt.

The City hasn't put any money into this place for years and from what I heard they cut the days they are open back this summer. Even for what it is it would be a great loss for the shooting community. FUCITYOFYONKERS!

Interesting. I did not hear that one. There was a lady up in Ardsley who said a bullet from that range struck her in the leg. Weeks later Con Ed decided not to renew that lease.

Just heard the Yonkers PD put a bug in the mayor's ear, range will stay open, more hours for LE, less weekend hrs, more weekday hrs. A colleague sent me a facebook snap.

Guess the general public doesn't matter. I'm glad it's staying open but it's for the wrong reason.

When you look at attendance and member rolls, there are few convincing arguments to be made that the shooting public takes advantage of that place. So yes, the general public in fact does not matter.

For contrast, I lived in Yonkers for five years, less than 2 miles away, and did not know a range was there. So yes, the city did and does very little to make the range's availability known.

Scuttlebutt is, in addition to declining interest, the parents of the kids who use the park complained bitterly about the range.
