The only thing that counts is recognizing that the word built qualifies as an accurate description and in place of assembled if decidedly chosen for the original post. What really didn't matter is your choice to steer away from that fact towards the irrelevancy that you keep pushing of what a stripped lower receiver is regarded by law. again. again. and over again.

4 guys from Bushmaster design a barrel from scratch, a receiver, ect and put it together. They forged it with heat, water, hammers, presses, ect. Once together, they built the rifle.

You guys just go on the internet and order parts and claim you built the rifle after assembling it with parts made and forged from those guys.

Ha! but you're missing so many important factors. No matter how you'd like to persuade or change the context of "build" and introduce building from "scratch", you can still build off of a stripped lower. It's not my opinion, it's just what that means. My purpose in this discussion has NOTHING to do with taking the credit for the research and development of a lower receiver. I'm also not saying that I'm doing something spectacular or amazing when I build off of one. It's easy, that's why so many people do it. All I'm saying is you can build a rifle or pistol from one. Whether or not I forge a part doesn't make a hoot of difference. I don't have to make ANY individual parts to build something, do you understand that? (I guess not at this point) You can compare anything on the planet that a manufacturer supplies another client and argue they didn't build that skyscraper because they didn't forge those steel beams... I mean hell, those steel beams are the main support of the building minus the foundation... It's just silly and it's clear it doesn't matter how many facts are presented to you. If you understand what the word assemble means, you'd also understand what the word build means too more than likely at this point, and the topic would be over with.

And Spat, a ghost didn't build anything. Rock River Arms built the receiver, Gissele built the trigger, Krieger built the barrel, Magpul built the rail, grip, and stock, and you assembled it into a rifle.

Nobody built the rifle. It was assembled via parts into one.

It won't see anything but my light reloads because I 100% agree with you. The 19 version has metal rails front and back. I'm going to get that eventually. This one I might just play with using borrowed uppers unless I can snag one cheap.

To keep life simple many people build many things. But most making happens in businesses. Example I built models when I was a kid I did not make them. Carpenter's build houses. Very rarely do builders make or transform the materials to build something.

Pretty funny to launch a throw-away question then go away a couple of days and let you guys waste hours debating like so many Democrat lawyers.

I'll casually say I "built" my ARs even though I know I didn't do anything special or particularly craftsman-like. It was only spent a few hours on my workbench using moderate care. I could probably work to lessen tool marks and try to do everything smoothly without having any do overs or lost parts, but I know everything is "correct".

So you say, "I built this." with a wink or a wry expression. Any reasonable person is going to understand that you built in the same way you built a particle board and allen key coffee table. You'd be stupid or an ass to brag about it like you're some old-world artisan gun Jedi.

The hardest thing about ARs is shopping and decision-making. Unless you go for the absolute cheapest or absolute best, trying to decide between the thousands of possible options takes a lot of time and consideration. Look at all the "dumb" AR builds there are where parts are mis-matched or just plain ugly. "Hey I put a Ti gas block under a two-pound quad rail!"

While it'd be fun to do an ultimate build without regard to cost, the real skill in all of this is finding the right parts to build a good solid, reliable, accurate rifle for a reasonable price. And that comes down to reading up and doing your homework before carefully shopping. If you can build an equal rifle for half the cost of a big brand then you did good. And generally speaking you should be able to come in at 50-70% cost with 98-100+% of the performance.

Sure is fun to #assemble these AR15 firearms.... My latest is a 16" mid-length with a Velocity straight trigger blade, new Magpul long range pro sights, JP captured spring, AeroPrecision overall ~ enjoying open sights for a change, they work great for the short ranges. Once I switched to a shorter sling mount near the center of gravity the VTAC sling finally made sense. Not a lightweight build, the Aero Ballistic Advantage SS barrel is better than expected, did group nicely when loosely mounted with cheap 55g ammo.

I'll add one to the mix. Just finished building...I mean assembling my latest (and last for a long while) AR build with a Bullet Guy Lower. Installed a Geissele handguard and two stage trigger too. Pouring cats and dogs right now so probably won't be able to try it out until next weekend. Still, I think it turned out pretty nice.

I was going to make same comment. The term build as compared to assemble is loosely interchanged in many aspects of creating things.
