The German constitution had a number of checks on executive power. Many were far stronger than a term limit.

When the time came the legislature swept them aside faster than an objection to the midnight vote for SAFE. Look up "enabling act" sometime.

You seem to have a very different idea about the "gun lobby" than I do.

I seriously doubt the manufacturers have anyone in their pocket. All of them put together spend less on lobbying than either Bloomberg *or* Soros alone.

The power of "the gun lobby" is us. The RKBA lobby's power comes from the voters they can mobilize. The RKBA lobby doesn't have the money to buy congressmen the way the gun grabbers do, but they do have millions of people who vote.

My point is that taking away our guns now would be about as productive as a book burning in 2021. Yeah they'll burn shit but the information already exists digitally therefore the designs can be printed and reprinted over and over again. The 2nd ammendment has been forever etched into the stones of human rights because of technology. In 10 years i have no doubt we will be able to extrude top quality components out of virtually any material. It'll be cheap and it'll be easy.

First, the printing technology isn't going to be there in 10 years. 50? MAYBE. The temperatures are too high and the chemistry of even old alloys are too complex. Sure, you'll be able to make frames and many other components that are very serviceable in your basement because they don't require high strength or hardness. But you will NOT get the strength needed for a barrel and you will NOT get the properties of hardened steel needed for portions of the action. It may be technically possible with an industrial grade process but that will not find it's way into a commercial printer within a decade.

Second, why don't you think we can slide back into a society where the for self defense is a near certainty during the course of a typical life? Humans haven't changed. We haven't gotten nicer, kinder, or more forgiving. We just don't have to worry about starving to death in most of the west. That's it. That's the only reason we are in such a historically peaceful period. The arrogance inherent in the assumption that we can no longer fall is astounding.

Third, have you been living under a rock?!? The fact that everything is digital makes it EASIER to control and, more importantly, manipulate. Even if you can print a viable barrel, it would be easy to put a small, critical, hard to detect void or seam into the file. Then, instead of firing, it blows up in your face. If everyone still gets their news from the morning paper, the story of Hunter's laptop is can't be quashed AFTER publication. There are already millions of copies distributed across the country.

There was a sunset provision built into the bill. Bush didn't kill it, it had a built in kill switch. All the legislature had to do was not renew.

And that whole 'republicans will overturn' concept has NEVER worked for gun rights (see 2016 -2018 for the most recent example).

It doesn't even need to be visible in a model. It could done with subtle modification of the infill or layering pattern. We're basically talking about a pressure vessel here. Not only do you need the printers' hardware and software to stay unadulterated by .gov/bigtech, you also need the modeling programs and their file translation algorithms to remain uncompromised.

Sure, defects will get caught eventually. But I think you underestimate the magnitude to which they can flood the community if they decide to target it. Besides, if you really HAVE to start printing your guns, those guys who know what to look for and how to look for it will disappear - whether through a desire to be discrete or otherwise. The community is small and relatively unknown even now, when the activity is perfectly legal.

All this to say, if they take our guns, printing them won't be a viable salvation. You'd do better running a small job shop out of your garage.

Bush did nothing. The bill had a sunset clause. In fact, Bush would have signed a renewal if it had made it to his desk. He has said as much.

I'm sure they will try to take our guns. I'm sure states like NY will jump at the chance to try and make people turn in their guns. I think it'll take a little longer though. SCOTUS has proven that they don't want to take up any new 2a cases but they've already ruled that we have the right to own a gun in our house. At a minimum NY will have to allow you to keep your guns on property an just remove the carry permits. The current justices will either need to overturn that previous ruling or Biden will have to try and pack the court which will take some time to do. It will at least make them present their hand and give people time to prepare. It might actually turn quite a few demoncraps against their own party when their confiscation plans come out. Some of them like guns.

I dint know where you live, but NYC says you can't keep any gun in house without a permit. So, doesn't really matter what Scotus said. Nyc does it's own thing unchallenged.
