The military is committed to its long apolitical tradition, so there is "zero" chance that troops will be sent into the streets in the event of disputed results in the November presidential election, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley said Monday.
"There's no role for the U.S. military in determining the outcome of a U.S. election. Zero. There is no role there," he said in an interview with National Public Radio's Steve Inskeep that aired early Monday.

I believe the law says that in cases of a dispute it should be settled by congress . So its to the democrats advantage to make sure there is a dispute.

If people agreed on what the law said about it there wouldn't be a problem to begin with.

The problem will occur when both sides claim the law supports them and not their opponent.

I believe I have suggested here on more than one occasion the possibility of us ending up with 2 POTUS this time. If it isn't determined by mid-Jan, and you can guarantee pelosi will try this, she becomes pres and the military will have to follow her orders.

This is an unlikely scenario, but it would be amazing to witness.

The move comes after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that Trump was in an "altered state," but said Friday the measure wouldn't apply to him.

"This is not about President Trump. He will face the judgment of the voters. But he shows the need for us to create a process for future presidents," Pelosi told reporters at Capitol Hill news conference as she introduced the bill.

"This legislation applies to future presidents, but we are reminded of the necessity of action by the health of the current president," she added. "It’s not about any of us making a judgment about the president’s well-being."

When pressed by reporters if she thinks it's time to invoke the 25th Amendment concerning Trump, Pelosi responded: "That's not for us to decide."

The measure would create an expert panel - with members appointed by Democratic and Republican leaders of the House and Senate - to conduct a medical exam at the direction of Congress to “determine whether the President is mentally or physically unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office," according to the text of a version of the proposal introduced in 2017 by Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland.

Raskin, a former constitutional law professor and member of the House Judiciary Committee, said the panel would include doctors as well as former presidents and Cabinet secretaries, who would each serve four-year terms.

“The population is getting older, politicians are getting older,” he said in an interview earlier this week. “It's not hard to think that there will be future situations where the president's physical and mental state may create issues for us. So, we just need to make sure that we have a structure and a process in place to address it.”

Pelosi has repeatedly expressed concerns in public and private this week about President Trump’s health amid his treatment for COVID-19.

Trump, at the direction of his doctors, has been taking dexamethasone, a steroid used to reduce lung inflammation in COVID patients, that can, in some cases, prompt psychiatric side effects, including mood swings, rage and psychosis.

“The president is, shall we say, in an altered state right now,” Pelosi said Thursday during an interview with Bloomberg TV. “I don’t know how to answer for that behavior.”

She continued, "There are those who say when you are on steroids or have COVID-19, there may be some impairment of judgment.”

Dr. Sean Conley, Trump's White House physician, who has provided little information about the president's condition and repeatedly contradicted himself in press conferences over the weekend, claimed to reporters on Monday that Trump has not displayed any neurological symptoms from the coronavirus, or side effects from his treatment.

Ratified in 1967 after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the 25th Amendment outlines procedures for a transfer of presidential power to the vice president in the cases of death, incapacitation, removal or resignation.

The amendment says the determination of whether a president can discharge their duties would be determined by the vice president and a majority of Cabinet secretaries or “such other body as Congress may by law provide,” which Raskin said his proposal is designed to establish.

The amendment states: “Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.”

“Congress has not yet set up such a body but I think that we should,” Raskin told ABC News. “I wish it had been done after the 25th Amendment was adopted in 1967.”

This is a legitimate issue to be concerned about. The democrats will use the media to support their side. What happens if two sides claim the authority to issue orders to the military? Hopefully we don't get near this but I expect an awful amount of trouble between November and January.

Well, if Pelosi and Trump both claim to be POTUS. There are a lot of people in the government who will have to decide which one they will believe.

If we have 9 SCOTUS justices it would be very difficult for 2 people to claim legitimacy since any power struggle would inevitably end up there.

I've posted this many times. It's ignored every time because people don't like what it says.

Currently it gives him 14%.

Right wing pundits have continually, for four years now, repeated the lie that the polls were wildly off. Sure some were, but plenty weren't. Those who gave him a 99% chance of losing are no better than those who think that the polls were meaningless; both express a wanton disregard for how statistics work.

Trump's campaign is very precarious. Far more so than in 2016, and he barely won 2016. He came very close to losing a couple of states he needed. He can't afford that this time.

In other words: for trump to win this time the polls will have to be far more inaccurate than they were in 2016.

I don't use 538 out of survivorship bias. I've been doing to it for several presidential elections because it very accurately predicts results. This is why I knew obama would win both times. Trump was favored to lose, but 538 knows better than to say he will lose. They simply specify odds. ANd currently his odds are very bad. He may still win, but I expect him to lose, and probably by a substantial amount.

If, when the Electoral College meets on December 15th, it cannot determine who will be the next President, then the house selects who is President and the Senate selects the Vice President. Each state gets one vote. Each member of Congress does not get to vote.

Taking the Mail in voting out of the mix it shall be interesting to see what the IN person voting results will show. You can't overturn results based on Mail in voting. I realize that every vote should count but if they are all lopsided for one side, guess what? Fraud!

I read a decent article yesterday it said that republicans wanted trump for scotus picks and got it and should let him go. Its argument made sense in that with amy in there it's a 6:3. If Trump wins again it will inevitably be at least a 7:2, which democrats will find utterly untenable and when they get the chance they will pack it. I still don't personally think they will with a 6:3...so the gist of the article was that even people who hate biden shouldn't be too upset if trump loses.

Personally I'm so much more at peace with all this if the senate does confirm amy.
