well let's start with that shall we?
The Gold Dot light magnums are completely unavailable from anywhere it seems. Y'all give me a heads up if you see any for sale.
The Magtechs are 148 wadcutters, seems like a good load to learn the ropes of the 340 PD
Every test I have seen of the .38 Special...
I'm gonna get a box of the Gold Dot 135gr short barrel specific magnums. They are a light magnum load that is pretty much a 38 +p+.
I'll see if it is tolerable, if so I will make that tge primary carry load. If not I will go with the 135gr .38 +p Gold Dots.
SG ammo is selling the .38 Special...
I've never been much of a trigger snob. For example I am so pleased with the factory trigger on my Gen 5 Glock 19 I will never put an aftermarket one on. What I felt in the shop whether on the 638 or 642 or the 340 seemed absolutely fine to me. I specifically did my little test where I see...
When I dry fired the various J frames in the shop, including the 340, I didn't find the pulls to be all that heavy. Long yes, but smooth and easy to work through with a final bit of stacking before the break. I am sure with a little practice I can manage it. I do find that a smooth and even...
Well again, it's gonna be for use in aa few specific instances, instances where the 340's low weight will be helpful, namely riding in the pocket of running pants with no belt. And I'll be using .38 Specials exclusively. I'm not a great shot but I do take pride that I am at least a competent...
Yeah, I'm just looking to be able to make 5 .38 Special torso hits at bad breath distance. I do hope that it will be at least a little fun to shoot with light target loads. I like to shoot after all, would be nice to be able plink with 100 or so wadcutters.
Next gun will be a 686 Plus I think...
Actually I plan on putting some Crimson Trace grips on. I'm generally not a laser guy but on a tiny J frame with rudimentary sights I think it makes much more sense.
And again this will mostly be my companion on my little 30 minute O'dark thirty runs and for little 10 minute errands. The...
Keep in mind the 340 pd weighs a scant 11.8oz. Opinions of 340pd owners both on these forums and on the YouTubes indicate highly unpleasant levels of recoil when shooting fullhouse .357 loads from this helium weight gun.
But yes, I certainly did not enjoy shooting my buddy's nuclear hot, 300gr...
So some hours ago I took y'alls advice and ordered a Mika pocket holster (brown with gold thread, classy) and to my surprise the gentleman what makes them calls me up over the phone! We had a nice little conversation asks if I have any questions and assures me I won't be disappointed with my...
Ah, excellent. I have been pursuing .38 Special ballistic gel test videos and of what's available at the LGS the Hornady is the only one that seems worth a damn in a snub nose. Even then it seems marginal. Gold Dots and Golden Sabres seem to do fairly well out of such a short barrel so I...
Hmmnn. My LGS stocks that Hornady load BUT apparently S&W specifies that the lightest load to be used in the PD is not less than 120gr. Something to do with wear on the titanium cylinder.
The HST load would be my top pick but Federal discontinued it. My LGS does stock the Federal Punch stuff...
Well, due to the seed @Xae289 planted in my mind I have placed $200 down on a new 340 PD. I have 2 months to pay it off.
Oh I have no doubt of that. The 340 feels like it is made out of helium. I have no intention of running any 357 magnum through it, other a than a cylinders worth just to...
My LGS has a 2 payment lay away program. I'm gonna go in later today to see if they would be amenable to a 3 payment plan on the 340 PD. If so I'll get it.
What do we all like for a good .38 Special defensive load? Federal used to have a great HST load but it's discontinued.
I'm still leaning towards the Model 638/642. Next time in in the shop I'll check our an LCR.
Something like the LCP would likely work better for me but honestly I have been hankering for a revolver for the longest time now.
Since this will be only for occasional and/or short duration carry some...
Any opinions as to whether a small frame revolver is more suitable for pocket carry than a automatic? I find the Shield to be a bit too large for pocket carry personally.
What about the Ruger LCR vs S&W J frames? The S&Ws actually seem cheaper.
Or would a small .380 pistol be better?
I am thinking it would be nice to have a small, light and simple .38 snub nose to just carry in my pocket for those times when I am just going out to get the mail or take out the garbage or run to the corner store and not have to bother with getting a holster positioned just so and selecting...
Long griped, short slide pistols have always seemed stupid to me anyways. I'd choose a G48 over a 43x. The exception being in the case of compensated pistols. Aside from that I find the Shield Plus to be an excellent firearm. It's slightly larger/heavier dimensions make it a smoother shooter...
Government is probably only upset that whatever backroom dealings holding back this de-raring have fallen through.
No way anyone in government could possibly be surprisedat the de-rate otherwise given our out of control spending.
See now the ELCAN has all kinds of problems with it. The elevation and windage adjustments are external and intergal to the mount itself, the scope body itself is moved and not the reticle itself and the adjustments themselves are fairly easily moved unintentionally as well as the scope body...
That is an example of me stating an opinion without taking into account that you might have specific needs for a 1x prism scope and having astigmatism is a great reason why that type of optic exists.
I was very impressed with how that rifle did in class. It handled very well and it's ergonomics make it quick to operate. I did not find myself any slower to put accurate fire on target compared to the 5.56 guns and overall was just a pleasure to work with. It was not a pleasure at all for...
I never saw the point of 1x prism scopes. 1x magnification but you still have an eye relief and parallax. Red dots and holographics do the same thing without either issue.
I think for $1,000 the ACOG is still a solid buy, they have optical clarity on par with high end European scopes many...
Honestly I think the cheapest scopes can get while being worth a shit is a couple hundred bucks or so. Anything less than $100 is guaranteed to be total garbage.
That's why you don't buy from no name China brands. Luepold makes a fixed 4x scope for around $300:

I indeed used to have a TA11 mounted on that rifle at one point, only with the chevron reticle.
I liked it alot and I thought it suited the Galil well but this time I was thinking the crosshair would be better
It would seem that a I have gotten a heads up from a little birdie (thank you very much!) That Eurooptic is running a deal on the exact ACOG I seek, at the former price of $1,000 and change. Unfortunately I haven't the dosh right this moment but I will start scrupulously saving my scheckles in...
Well, yes. However remember that the PLX 1-8 is also a premium, $1,400 optic and being a .308 the Galil could put that extra magnification to good use.
On the other hand the Galil is a tank of a rifle, a real end-of-days firearm and the ACOG is an end-of-days tank of an optic as well.
If...
I am indeed considering the PLX 1-8, you'll notice it is one of the two options of my poll .
My issue with the PA micro prism is the muddy clarity and narrow field of view. The eye relief might be a little too close for use on the Galil which would have optic further forward than the rearmost...
@Vapor when I eventually (strong emphasis on "eventually") get Gally re-glassed I'll even post some groups *GASP*
In any event I'm inclined to agree with the both of you however that high price has me hesitant, for the money you can have any of a variety of very nice variables. I should...
Can't really do 45° offsets with the Galil. Ejection can be erratic, every so often it will spit a case back at a sharp angle to the rear, if it caught the offset dot it would likely be damaged. The cases eject with considerable vigor as is typical for AKs.
Neither scopes are at all cheap...
To be mounted on my beloved Galil Ace .308. I had an ACOG TA11 on it at one point but I had to sell it to raise some emergency cash. I really like the ACOG and I think it suited the Galil well, however the cost of ACOGs has risen above what the PA 1-8 goes for so I wonder if I shouldn't get...
This is precisely why these freaks CANNOT be allowed to participate in normal society. They either need to be locked up in asylums or euthanized outright.
If Trump is not elected president in 2024 and we do not turn the culture cold War into a hot Civil War we will all be forced to our knees to live 8n a communist authorian world. You all will be actually. I will not kneel, I will give them no choice but to kill me. I'd rather die than live in...
