New option for 'fixed mag' SAFE Act?

Yeah, it (ARSafe) probably seemed like a good idea when developed, but there was a video on it (or something just like it) in the YouTube recommended list when watching the Mean Loader video, and all I could think was, "well, that just became obsolete." Works for the range, I guess, but not...

    SAFE or Not SAFE?

RDN is right, of course, but I like to design. So, who wants to engineer this AR-type lower that might actually use the AR bolt carrier ... (Forgive the rough and two-tone concept drawing.)

    SAFE or Not SAFE?

True, but I'm interested in the concept as a rifle (not for any real purpose, but for the thought exercise.) Is that what that tab is on the first one? Grinder will take care of that. In essence, it's halfway between a standard rifle and a bullpup. Instead of putting the action/mag all the...

    SAFE or Not SAFE?

Magazine changes should be easy, since you're already holding the magazine. Keep your support hand on the front end and the butt on your shoulder, then release the mage with your strong-hand thumb. The magazine, once inserted, is the grip. As such, you don't have to have a long trigger finger...

    SAFE or Not SAFE?

Y'all got some long-ass thumbs to have it in that hole while gripping the mag. Good catch, though. Let's say we fill that hole ... The orange version is, indeed, ugly as sin, but I kinda like the blued/wood one. ;)

2016 (and newer) 590a1. They finally got it right

Well, in this case, the point of the OP (i.e., it has 6+1 vs. the 500 ATI's 5+1.) There are others, of course, but since that's the "it" that Mossberg finally "got ... right," I'll assume it's a deal breaker to not have it. ;)

    Flash Cans

Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable porting a barrel under FUAC. As for the Volquartsen barrel, it's simply a very heavy profile at the muzzle. Great for competition shooting, but not much else.

I have target crown barrels. Just thinking about one for looks. No different, really, than pinning one of those fake flash hiders. I'm picturing it pinned to a 13.7" - 14.5" barrel with a handguard coming up to or even just over it. Does it really do nothing? Obviously, it doesn't affect...

    Flash Cans

Midwest Industries just released their own flash can: As with other flash cans, it specifically says that it "does not reduce recoil or flash." So, it should be good, when pinned to a barrel, under SAFE. Right? If so, the design is flash hider like in appearance. Anyone have experience...

New option for 'fixed mag' SAFE Act?

    .

Understandable. My "carbine" SCR has a pencil barrel on it right now and is very handy. This barrel was for my SCR SPR, so I was looking for a precision barrel. The profile is 0.900" under the handguards, 0.875" gas block journal and 0.760" up front, which is slightly larger than a typical...

Was it their 18" Predator? I took advantage of their 1/2-price fluting sale to have them "narrow flute" (12 deep, narrow flutes, as seen on the SDM barrel) the whole thing. Dropped the weight to just under 2 1/2" lbs.

Thordsen Customs FRS-15 Rifle Stock (bolt requirement)

I was thinking something that slid on and (especially) off relatively quickly. If the commercial ones are too tight for that, you could buy a couple of sizes of foam tubing and then see if one goes on snug, but not so tight that you can't pull it off in a second. Or contact AR15.com member...

Thordsen Customs FRS-15 Rifle Stock (bolt requirement)

Same idea. Though, having tried it with a bare tube, myself, the UBR's cheek rest is definitely more comfortable. Heavy stock, though, and a bit expensive (especially, for someone who doesn't convert back too often.) Have you thought about trying a foam buffer tube cover?

Thordsen Customs FRS-15 Rifle Stock (bolt requirement)

As others have said/implied, there is nothing relating to the buffer system that is inherent to the Thordsen other than the physical length of the rifle-length tube being in the way of the rear part of the stock. There are no mechanical parts inside of the FRS-15, itself. It's just a bent tube...

I would say, based on the pictures, that the first one was bad parts combined with going crazy with the pump. The second looks like a particularly heavy grip/light combo to be hanging off of a plastic rail that is attached to a pump. Regardless, I agree that an AFG or the like would be a...

Set me straight on scope sighting

BDC is not for take-your-time precision shooting. It's for quick adjustments for quick shots, when you don't have time to use a card or an app. Think more SPR/DMR/3-gun than sniper/competition (precision). They are useful if you tend to use (roughly) the same ammo and, for SFP, the same...

Yup. The real equation is: Avg. guns/owner = ((number of known owned guns)/(% of owned guns known))/((number of admitted gun owners)/(% gun owners who admit it)) Good luck estimating those two percentages. It's like Rumsfeld said: "there are known knowns; there are things we know we know...

How to zero your sights for 50/200 yds at 10 yds.

While the rough idea works, it's important to note that the actual distance (1.9", here) will depend on several things: the height of your rings, the length of your barrel, the ammunition you use. With little vertical drop over 10 yards, due to the high initial velocities with any barrel/ammo...

    Most useful AR rail system?

Weight and diameter are my biggest complaints about full quad rails. For example, I'm looking for something in the 12-13" range for my current build. The DDM4 rail by Daniel Defense is the lightest, slimmest quad and its 12" model still weighs 13.6 oz and is 1.9" W x 2.16" tall (note: the...
