There will be No time to say "Goodbye". Add your thoughts! (if electricity goes down long term)

I’m living this nightmare. As of around 1400, my wife was given a 10% chance of surviving the night. Being in your mid 30s and thinking about being a single dad isn’t pretty.

Oil Prices Pass $112 Barrel, OPEC Holding Firm, Here Comes $7 Gasoline

Eh...just drill here and be insensitive to what everybody else does with oil. $4 gasoline hurts even though I average around 45mpg. We have lots of dead dinosaurs down there, take advantage of that...please.

Oil Prices Pass $112 Barrel, OPEC Holding Firm, Here Comes $7 Gasoline

Doubtful. 155mpg?! Maybe on UK gallons...I could see 110 or 120 MAX, and that’s merely plausible not probable. I’m damn sure not buying new though...I’d be buying the cheapest one I could get. Sub-$1000 for a rideable one isn’t out of the question...or at least, it wasn’t before dead Dino juice...

Russia or the Ukraine? Which side do you support?

FWIW, I was too young to know what was going on during Gulf 1, but we were requested to intervene, so while I don’t support foreign interventionism a la John Quicy Adams’ warning not to seek foreign monsters to slay, it was at least not a clusterf**k of questionable decisions. Gulf II was not a...

Oil Prices Pass $112 Barrel, OPEC Holding Firm, Here Comes $7 Gasoline

I agree but that ship has sailed. Even if the Feds released every shackle they have on oil production, it would probably not yield palpable results until around the end of this year. In the meanwhile, yeah, I’m willing to absorb the costs if it means we aren’t lining Russia’s (Putin’s) pockets...

Oil Prices Pass $112 Barrel, OPEC Holding Firm, Here Comes $7 Gasoline

When I was I NY in mid-Feb, fuel was around $3.50/g. I took a few days to drive back to TX, and when I got here it was hovering around $3.10ish at my local cheap station, which as of last night was $3.199. It’s going up everywhere...and won’t stop for a while. Somewhere in the $4 range it will...

The face of gun ownership is changing.

Diversity is a big thing for me; I don’t feel as comfortable in homogeneous settings as I do in well-mixed ones, just because of where I grew up; except for precious few areas, you weren’t likely to be anything more than a plurality of any demographic grouping. But it was organic diversity and...

Should We Blindly Support the Police?

Hell no we shouldn’t just blindly support cops. A lot of the ones where I’ve lived both in CA and TX have been mainly focused on traffic enforcement. Anything between that and murder and they look like Keystone Kops. Many have been straight up dicks, like the Milpitas, CA cop who pulled my...

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez - The gift that keeps on giving

I struggle to come up with anything which isn’t a bit sexist other than that I rarely hear anything from her pontifications which makes any sense to me. I’d rather her be a guy so I don’t have to be afraid of being cancelled!

Biden's First State of the Union

I mean, of course the State of the Union speech was full of bluster and baseless optimism. That’s just how it goes. His speaking gaffes were numerous. I even saw Pelosi’s eyes flutter a bit in...disgust? Annoyance?...at one of his gaffes. I’m not one of those people who even remotely thinks I...

Russia or the Ukraine? Which side do you support?

Well that’s why I say the Russians will win the battles - and take Ukraine - but ultimately it will be a costly boondoggle as it’s clear the Ukrainians want no part of it. Already it appears that the Ukrainians are a dangerous combination of brave and scrappy. My hunch is that even if/when...

The face of gun ownership is changing.

I gotta say... ...I’m not comfortable with commentary on minorities and/or females getting on the gun train. It’s nice to see, but from my view those traits are irrelevant. People are people and we pretty much want the same thing. Now that’s not what makes me uncomfortable. What makes me...

Russia or the Ukraine? Which side do you support?

Exactly. Ukraine may not have been a model of good governance, but that doesn’t give nearly enough cover for Putin to do a boo-boo. Ukraine wasn’t really threatening Russia except in Putin’s own mind. I’ll say this for Zelensky: what he may lack in thoroughly clean governance, he is now making...

Russia or the Ukraine? Which side do you support?

I dunno about THE Ukraine, but I support Ukraine. Putin is a backwards-thinking dictator. He has a nominal democracy supporting him, but we know how false that is. I can see why he thinks the way he does, but on the same token, he’s stuck in his East Germany KGB days to do so. Ukraine is only...

I’ll check out The Firing Pin. I do have one guy I’ve known for a good while - probably about six years - he’s a neighbor to my in-laws. He’ll be reference number one. I’m not looking to take shortcuts - I don’t want to be that guy on the news. I don’t mind shipping from FFL to FFL. It’s...

Looking for a cheap lever rifle

It’s a 1972 build, has pretty wood furniture. Not gonna do pics tonight but it’s otherwise a nice gun. I put maybe 300 rounds through it. It hates 150 grain, prefers 125 first and foremost, and is pretty passable with 175, both near max pressures. Doesn’t rupture cases, functions smoothly...

Wouldn’t mind unloading my Marlin 336 for cash. Honestly, get whatever cheap lever action you come across. I’d argue they’re less obsolescent than a bolt rifle, and I was MOA with hand loads. Get one and have fun. I’d never buy another one in anything but a pistol chambering though. 3030 kicks...

This whole moving thing is treating me well. I found a second round of .38spl, and a dummy round of .30-30 I made back when I had a reloading rig. You can see the striations where I cycled it through my Marlin 336 tonight. Pictured are my “ammo finds”: Side note: someone slap me upside the...

    What Are You Interested In?

I’m the same way. It’s why I’m such a fan of Ian McCollum. I’d have much more fun shooting a G43 or a Tokarev pistol or something else more truly obscure than the ubiquitous ARs or Glocks. Aside from that I love cars, that’s probably my main thing, plus watches, food, and talking about cities...

Biden Again Pledges To Sign Bill That Would Force Public Schools To Allow Male Athletes Into Girls’ Sports

I’m probably among the most lenient on here when it comes to trans people, but I do think the line needs to get drawn at sports. If they’re leaving a socialist hellhole, they probably aren’t finna recreate it. Also, while our culture is basically all Western, it’s still a smorgasbord of different parts of that. Just because Europe looks pretty homogenous to us today, doesn’t mean it was always so. Italians, Jews, and...

Yeah, but what I’m talking about is the tone and timbre of that. No matter what was said, he came off in a bad way. I’m probably coloured in a lot of ways. I grew up in a suburb where Asians were a 3:1 majority, split among mostly Chinese, then Indians, Filipinos, Vietnamese, and Japanese...

Any Support for the Independant Candidate Jo Jorgensen?

Well here’s the thing that the right here doesn’t grasp: they have sounded xenophobic for a long time, arguing about how our culture will change, or most pointedly how our President campaigned on what kind of dregs we’re importing. If that’s not what Republicans mean to say, then they need to...

Yup, and I don’t have a problem with that. Where I do have a problem is in the assumption that immigrants are troublemakers. I’m not sure how to explain where I am, but I am perfectly OK with border controls, just not if they are enforced with the basic mindset that immigrants = bad.
  47. Jcp123

Any Support for the Independant Candidate Jo Jorgensen?

No, I wouldn’t say that. I think it’s a goal to aspire to, but the human condition right now won’t allow that. Open borders is either 100 generations away, or will need some aliens to land before it’s any kind of a workable or practical thought. I’m absolutely for border controls and a good...
