I fucking hate people. I went to a spot close since it was cold and I have some other crap to do today. I was in the woods 5:45am sitting in my spot in a DEC wildlife management area. 6:15-6:30am a car pulls into the lot and just sits there for 10-15 minutes. I’m thinking weird. Guy gets out and I swear to god he literally shuffled his feet over the snow and ice covered path. I’m thinking WTF. It’s a bit swampy where I’m at and some large areas were a bit frozen over. He gets into the woods and literally plunk, plop, plunk, plop walks through the partially frozen over places making a ton of noise. Sits there for 15 minutes fires one shot a minute to minute and a half later fires one more shot and leaves. I honest to god think he did this just to scare deer away because ?? I had one deer in front of me I saw the large silhouette get up and take off as he was plunking his way into the woods and heard another one run off to the left of me. 20-30 feet in front of me after I was walking out and scoping out of he shot a deer I saw tons of fresh fresh tracks and a nice pile of poop right where that deer fled directly in front of me. I do hate people. I think he actually did this on purpose. Mad I was in his spot doesn’t like deer hunting?? I walked over to where he was and he never even sat down. The tree where he was the snow was completely full of footprints and a 4 ft square was completely matted down. Never seen anything like it.

Indeed it was. The area I hunt, makes it rare for a shot over 150 yards. I believe the longest shot on a deer i've taken in NY was around 140 yards with my 223.
Sorry about the crappy morning hunt for you, people can make things difficult. I try my hardest not to pressure our deer, however neighbors don't always play by the same rules. hang in there, I can't wait to see you throw up a picture when you connect!

Saw about 3 doe in the afternoon, apparently in a rush to get somewhere. Beautiful day. It the wind bit in the late afternoon. Guess I'll head back out in the morning. Only heard 3 close shots early this morning.

It was only myself and that guy. I’ve been there a few times for small game during shotgun and now season and only ran into one other guy. I’ve hunted a few state parks small game as well and ran into no one else.DEC management area's are like going to Las Vegas
It would have been great if it was for that asshole. The deer who’s silhouette I saw was smack in front of me 20-30 feet away. I walked in near silent unlike the elephant asshole!!
O didn’t have much time and wanted to get out. My next other option I don’t have a doe tag for and it’s 2 hours away.

It’s 40 acres he didn’t need to be 50 feet from me and be an asshole. I’d have actually moved for him if he had asked. Also the 50 feet away didn’t even bother me the loud asshoke part bothered me. The deer run parallel the entire way through the 40 acres. I’m guessing the guy late to the party didn’t do his homework either.Could be but we all know how that goes
I hear you on the shoot out. I knew exactly where he was and knew his back was to the tree and there was no way for him to shoot me unless it was on purpose. Also he only had an orange cap on no vest or anything else. I’m sure I was better armed than he was

That’s honestly what I think it was. He truely was shuffling his feet. It’s a paved path and I walked it silently. It was easy to avoid the snow.
Saw 6 deer walking in this morning.....I got a picture but it sucks.
Watched a buck for over an hour. He just hung out under an oak tree all damn morning.....didnt give me a shot.
He only had 1, four point antler.....so should be an 8 point maybe.
Ive got him on video but dont know how to post video.
Then I followed bear tracks for awhile. I wasnt planning on shooting a bear but he was heading my way so I followed.

Just dispatched one on 23 near Davenport. I’ve never seen a hit deer just sitting in the middle of the road. It was weird. We tried pulling him off to the side but he couldn’t walk at all. Did the deed and some dudes in a pickup asked if they could take it.
Yeah I gave it to them. Wasn’t big enough to waste another tag.

Made four separate attempts deer hunting today.. had to take warm my feet breaks, coffee breaks, lunch breaks, beer breaks, warm my feet breaks and so on.. Only had one resonable shot offered on a spike horn but I passed on him.. back at it tomorrow.

This getting old thing sucks. I put the dog out about 430 this morning. The wind was whipping. I said f it and went back to bed. Went out about 10 to help a buddy with his doe. I'll be out tomorrow morning though. Then I have a 4 day weekend this coming weekend.

Anyone hunt in the afternoons? I get out of work at 4 and thought about walking that path when I get done. Won’t give me much time but I can walk that path silently and I’ve seen 3-4 deer off the path small game hunting.

I also got the full length insoles but I dont think I need anything more than the toes. Now I'm just trying to find the right rechargeable glove liners and I can stay out for 68 hours straight.

I hope so. At this rate I may not get out until Tuesday afternoon. But for first time in a long time actually put in for a nice chunk of vacation - will be hunting my hood with my FiL right up to 12/1. Doing all the work and house shit leading up to it to make it actually happen sucks though, sitting here reading thru all you guys' opening day!

Ive used Lacrosse Burly Outdoorsmans for 3 decades. Ive only had 2 pairs in 30 years.
I think they dropped the Outdoorsman and call them just Burly now.
The plain green rubber ones.....none of that camo fabric crap.
They must have the Air Grip tread and 800 grams of thinsulate.....good to -40 degrees.
